37th Annual Montana Governor's Cup Walleye Tournament

After two long days of fishing on Fort Peck Reservoir, July 12 and 13, and after the fish had all been weighed and the numbers tallied; the pair of Owen Wilcox, Laurel, and Ziek Gordon, Bozeman, left no doubt. The Montana fishermen finished with a two-day total of 85.41 lbs of walleye, outdistancing the second-place team by 21 pounds.

After Day 1, Owen and Ziek were sitting in seventh place, but hauled in a massive catch of 52.28 pounds on Saturday to bring home the title. Joe Okada and Brett King, who held the lead after day one by nearly 9 pounds, would finish in second place. The Jordan team of Brem and Clyde Phipps finished in third place, jumping up three spots on the second day, as they finished day one in sixth place.

There were some impressive leaps in the scoring column on July 13 as well. Wayne Wilcox and Chris Grotjohn finished day one in 61st place; but the pair had a big haul (42.76 lbs) to bump all the way up to seventh place and a top 10 finish. The Ray, N.D., team of Chad and Brad Knox also jumped 62 places, from 72nd on day one, to finish in 10th place in the tournament.
