Reds Split With Blue Devils

The Reds split their doubleheader with the Glendive Blue Devils July 2. Glasgow pulled off a run in the eighth inning in game one to win 10-9 but fell behind early in game two for a 12-2 loss. The Reds hold a 7-16 record now.

Glasgow and Glendive stood tied at 3-3 at the end of one. Riley Smith sent Brody Hansen home on a fly ball to left field before Khye Gamas and Smith both scored on an error by the Blue Devils catcher. The Reds doubled their score in the second while keeping the Blue Devils off the board. Jack Kolstad scored on a Smith fielder’s choice. Connor Hudyma sent Hansen and Smith home on a fly ball to center field.

The Reds sent three more runners home in the third. Aiden Price scored on a wild pitch with Gamas at the plate. Griffen Azure crossed home on a Smith sacrifice fly to center field before Hansen scored on a Hudyma line drive to left field. Glendive answered with three runs and added a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to tie the game.

Neither team scored in the seventh but Aiden Price connected in the eighth for a single to send Wyatt Sugg home for the win.

Glasgow was outhit 11-9 in the game but held their errors to two while Glendive had three. Price was 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI while Hudyma went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Hansen, Smith, Sugg and Azure had a hit each. Smith also had three RBIs while Cade Hudyma had one. Smith and Gamas both had two stolen bases with Price, Hansen and Azure stealing one a piece.

Smith earned the win on the mound, going three and a third innings with two strikeouts, one earned run and three hits. Hansen started the game for Glasgow, giving up six earned runs and six hits with two strikeouts over two and a third innings. Connor Hudyma spend two and a third innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs and two hits.

Glasgow scored first in game two when Smith crossed home on an error by the catcher but Glendive answered with four runs in the bottom of the first. The Blue Devils added a run in the third and the fourth before the Reds crossed home again in the sixth. Smith scored again on a passed ball with Cody Kuka at the plate. Glendive sewed up the game in the bottom of the sixth with six runs.

Glasgow had five errors to Glendive’s two and was outhit 11-6 in the game. Smith was 2-for-2 at bat while Gamas went 2-for-3. Price and Azure each had a hit.

Sugg started the game on the mound, allowing five earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout over two innings. Gamas went two and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts, one run and one hit. Connor Hudyma gave up two hits and three runs, two earned while Azure gave up one run. Kolstad allowed two earned runs on one hit.

Glasgow is in Sidney today, July 10, to take on the Richland County Patriots at 5 and 7 p.m.

The Reds will then host the Glendive Blue Devils Wednesday, July 11, with games at 5 and 7 p.m.

The Reds will attend the Williston Tournament Friday through Sunday, July 12-14, in North Dakota. Glasgow plays the Surrey Blue Sox at 9:30 a.m. and Post 320 Rapid City at noon Friday. Saturday they take on Bismarck 15U at 5 p.m.
