Town Of Nashua Seeking To Fill Council Position

Resolution Passed To Increase Salaries For Employees

The Town of Nashua held a special meeting on June 24 to discuss the resolution vacating a council seat, advertising for part time assistant positions, and discussing the resolution regarding the salaries and compensation of the elected and appointed town officers as well as all town employees.

After the public comment period, council member Mike Merideth resigned from his position on the council, therefore opening a position available for the term ending in December 2025. Any citizen of the U.S., living in the town limits of Nashua and been a resident of at least 60 days is eligible to apply. Applications are open through July 8, and can be sent to Town of Nashua, P.O. Box 47, Nashua, Mont. 59248. The town can be contacted at 406-746-3461 or by email, [email protected] for further questions or concerns regarding this position. Applicants will be asked questions during a special meeting on Monday, July 8, 6 p.m., and the individual selected will be sworn in at the council meeting following at 7 p.m.

In 2025, which is the next election cycle for municipalities, the individual appointed at the July 8 meeting, if they wish to retain their seat, will need to file a Declaration of Nomination with the Election Office to run to fulfill the last two years of the term, which is through Dec. 31, 2027. If the individual does not wish to retain their seat, they will not run to complete the next two years of the term.

The town also voted to hire a part time assistant clerk and a part time public works assistant, both at a rate of $16 per hour and will be around 20 hours a week. At this time, Town Clerk Chris Washington does not work full time, however she expressed she did not want anymore hours than she already has.

The Town also voted on pay raises, with council member Greg Fromdahl first asking what the town can afford regarding the raises before discussions occurred. It was noted by Mayor JoAnna Turner and Washington that the town could afford whatever was decided as they will be working on the remainder of the budget after the raises were voted in. The proposed budget would then be sent to the Council for review and then to the public in July.

The pay raises voted in were as followed:

Clerk Washington - $16.50 an hour was increased to $20 an hour

Public Works David Rexhausen - $20 an hour was increased to $22 an hour

Mayor Turner - $100 per month to $300 per month

Council Members - $50 per month to $75 per month.

Council members and the Mayor do get extra pay for each budget meeting as well as other benefits.

Anyone interested in applying to be a Town Council member, or assist with being an assistant to Public Works or to the Clerk, applications need to be sent to the Town of Nashua.
