Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Alive at Five made its debut event of the summer season on June 19 at the Nemont Office. A rain shower did not stop those in attendance from having a good time, participating in the 50/50 drawing, listening to music by Jolie Blue, enjoying delicious food from Nemont as well as spending time with family and friends.
New to this year's events is a fire truck pull competition instead of the Hot Dog eating competition. Milk River Inc. has put together a four-part series of fire truck pulls to crown a champion team. Teams will be comprised of eight team members and one Milk River Star athletes. The goal is pull a fire truck 75 feet faster than your opponent. The winners from the first three events will move onto the final pull at the last event of the summer.
The first fire truck pull comprised of firefighters from the Glasgow City and Long Run Fire Departments, with Milk River Star athlete Isaiah Devereaux, taking on law enforcement members of Valley County, including Glasgow Police and Valley County Sheriff's Office, with Milk River Star athlete Shaundel Alexander.
The fire departments came out victorious as it only took them 25 seconds to move the fire truck the required 75 feet, while it took local law enforcement two minutes and seven seconds to move the fire truck the required feet. The fire departments will move onto the final pull on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in front of the Rundle Suites.
During the Alive at Five event, there was a 50/50 drawing which Zack Burner won, taking home $125 at the end of the night. Nemont also provided food for the guests, and donated all the proceeds to the Alive at Five organization.
Mark your calendars as the July Alive at Five will be held Wednesday, July 17, in front of Elle Boutique's new location 114 5th St South, Glasgow. Live music will be provided by Sideways with food available for purchase by Miki's Food Truck. The competitors for the Fire Truck Pull will feature Glasgow High School students taking on a team of students from other Valley County schools, including Lustre Christian, Nashua, Opheim, Hinsdale and Frazer. The Alive at Five events are sponsored by the Glasgow Downtown Association and run from 5 to 8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. The fire truck pull will start at 7 p.m.
