Reds Go 1-3 At Wahpeton Tournament

Hold 2-6 Record Early In Season

The Glasgow Reds went 1-3 at the Wahpeton Tournament this past weekend for a 2-6 record early in the season. Glasgow defeated Detroit Lakes 10-2 in the opening round June 7, but fell 10-6 to the LaMoure A's and 8-0 to Wahpeton the following day. The Reds lost to Post 30 on Sunday by a 13-1 score in four innings.

Glasgow took a 4-0 lead over Detroit Lakes with two runs in the first and another two in the second. Detroit Lakes got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the third but the Reds answered with four in the fourth while holding their opponents to one. Glasgow closed out the game in the fifth with two more runs while shutting Detroit Lakes out.

The Reds had 10 hits with one error while Detroit Lakes had six hits and five errors.

Mason Hunter went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs while Khye Gamas was 2-for-4. Riley Smith, Cade Hudyma, Connor Hudyma, Wyatt Sugg and Jack Kolstad added one hit each. Smith had two RBIs and Cade Hudyma hit one runner home.

Gamas stole four bases to lead the Reds with Kolstad and Hunter stealing one a piece.

Smith went four and two-thirds innings on the pitcher's mound, giving up six hits and two runs, one earned, with four strikeouts. Hunter pitched in relief to close out the game.

Glasgow faced the LaMoure A's Saturday and took a 3-1 lead after two, building to 4-1 after three innings. The A's scored once in the bottom of the fourth but Glasgow answered with a run in the top of the next inning. LaMoure tied the Reds with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and took control of the game with another five runs in the sixth. Glasgow scored once in the seventh but were unable to catch back up to the A's.

The A's had 10 hits with a single error while the Reds committed five errors and connected eight times at bat.

Gamas and Brody Hansen both went 2-for-4 at bat to lead the Reds. Hunter, Smith, Connor Hudyma and Kolstad connected once each. Kolstad led in RBIs with two followed by Hunter, Connor Hudyma and Hansen with one each.

Smith led in stolen bases with two while Gamas and Hunter had one a piece.

Cade Hudyma allowed five hits and two earned runs in his four and one-third innings on the mound while throwing three strikeouts. Gamas had one strikeout in one and one-third innings while giving up eight runs – four earned – on five hits.

In their next game, the Reds were unable to get on the scoreboard while the host team had one run in the first and took over the game in the second with six runs. Wahpeton scored once more in the fourth for their win over Glasgow.

The Reds notched one hit to Wahpeton's seven as both teams played an error-free game. Hunter had the lone hit for Glasgow.

Aiden Price took the loss on the mound in four innings, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout.

Sunday, Glagsow hit the diamond against Post 30 for their final game of the weekend. Post 30 raced out to an early and commanding lead with two runs in the first, five in the second and five in the third before the Reds got on the scoreboard once in the top of the fourth. Post 30 answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to end the game early.

Glasgow had two hits with four errors to Post 30's 10 hits and two errors.

Hunter and Cade Hudyma each connected once at bat for the Reds with Hunter adding a stolen base to the stats sheet.

Hunter spent an inning and two-thirds on the mound, giving up five runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Cade Hudyma allowed three runs – two earned – on one hit with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning. Hansen gave up two earned runs on one hit and Sugg allowed three runs – two earned- on four hits with one strikeout.

Glasgow was in Billings June 11 and 12 to take on the Billings Cardinals Tuesday and the Billings Blue Jays Wednesday in a set of doubleheaders but scores were unavailable at press time.

The Reds host the Miles City Mavericks Saturday, June 15, with games at 3 and 5 p.m.
