Glasgow Reds 1-3 At Season Opening Havre Tournament

The Glasgow Reds baseball team opened their 2024 season at the Havre Tournament held May 31 through June 2. Glasgow fell to the Tri-County Cardinals 11-5 Friday. Saturday the Reds earned an 8-4 victory over the Gallatin Valley Outlaws. Glasgow fell 14-0 to the Great Falls Chargers and 10-4 to the Havre Northstars Sunday.

Glasgow and Tri-County were tied 1-1 at the end of the first inning as the latter added a run in both the top of the second and the third. The Reds answered with three run sin the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead but lost it when the Cardinals scored twice in the fourth, once in the fifth and twice again in the sixth. Tri-County sent three more home in the seventh while Glasgow had one run, giving the Cardinals the 11-5 victory.

Glasgow had six hits and committed seven errors to Tri-County’s eight hits and two errors.

Cade Hudyma took the loss for the Reds on the mound, pitching five and one-third innings. He allowed eight runs (one earned) on two hits with one strikeout. Brody Hansen allowed three earned runs on six hits with one strikeout in relief.

Wyatt Sugg went 2-for-3 at bat while Hudyma was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Mason Hunter went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Riley Smith and Jack Kolstad added a hit each with Hansen getting an RBI.

Glasgow went up 2-0 in two innings over Gallatin Valley before the Outlaws cut the lead in half in the top of the third. Both teams put up three runs in the fourth before the Reds closed out the game with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and a shut-out of the Outlaws in the top of the seventh.

The Reds had nine hits to the Outlaws’ four, and played a clean game while the Outlaws had three errors.

Smith went three and one-third innings as the starting pitcher, allowing three earned runs on two hits with nine strikeouts. Khye Gamas went one inning in relief, throwing four strikeouts. Hudyma closed out the game with three strikeouts and allowed one earned run on one hit.

Cade Hudyma had three stolen bases followed by Gamas and Kolstad, both with two. Connor Hudyma, Sugg, Hansen and Hunter stole one base a piece.

Kolstad went 2-for-3 at bat with two RBIs while Hudyma went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Gamas went 2-for-3 at bat with one RBI. Hansen and Connor Hudyma were both 2-for-3 at the plate.

Saturday, the Chargers and the Reds struggled with offense as Great Falls put up one run in the first and one in the fourth while keeping the Reds off the scoreboard. The Chargers broke the game wide open in the fifth with a 12-run scoring streak. They shut Glasgow out in the bottom of the inning to end the game early.

The Reds had one hit, by Gamas, with two errors while the Chargers connected eight times with three errors. Gamas also had three stolen bases.

Aiden Price took the loss for Glasgow, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits with three strikeouts over four and one-third innings. Cade Hudyma gave up five earned run son two hits while Sugg allowed three earned runs on two hits.

Sunday, Glasgow took a 4-3 lead over Have in the first inning but the Northstars kept the Reds off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game as they scored four runs in the second, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Glasgow had three hits and two errors to Havre’s nine hits and three errors.

Kolstad started the game on the mound, going one and one-third innings and allowing seven runs – six earned – on five hits. Hunter in relief gave up two runs – one earned – on three hits with three strikeouts. Hansen had one strikeout while surrendering one earned run on one hit.

Gamas, Smith and Connor Hudyma each had a hit for the Reds with Hudyma, John Grimes and Kolstad collecting an RBI a piece. Gamas added two stolen bases and Smith had one.

Glasgow was scheduled to host the Glendive Blue Devils for a doubleheader Wednesday, June 5. the Reds will play the Wahpeton City Tournament June 7-9, They take on Detroit Lakes Friday at 6 p.m. and the LaMoure A’s at 12:30 p.m. Saturday followed by a game against Wahpeton at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Glasgow plays the Fergus Falls Hurricanes at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The Reds will be in Billings June 11 and 12. The Reds play the Billings Cardinals at 5 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, and face the Billings Blue Jays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12.
