Law Enforcement Report

For the week of May 6 through May 12, there were 27 motor vehicle stops, seven reports of loose livestock, two reports of missing/lost dogs and two reports of a deer being hit by a vehicle.

For the week of May 13 through 19, there were 42 motor vehicle stops, two reports of loose dogs, one report of a VIN inspection request, one report of loose livestock and one request to dispatch a deer.

Monday, May 6

1651 – A vehicle was reported to be driving erratically, specifically all over the road and up on the sidewalk. The vehicle drove from the highway into the street, and swerved into traffic. The calling party stated he was willing to sign a statement if needed.

2158 – Caller requested law enforcement at the residence for a family disturbance. Her son and his girlfriend were arguing and screaming at each other. The fight has not turned physical but the caller was reporting it before it did. She said the two of them were supposed to be moved out today but they are not gone from the residence. A few minutes later, girlfriend called stating the reporting party kicked them out of the residence when they were getting the kids ready for bed. There was an agreement between the three of them that the original reporting party would allow them to reside at the residence while they were waiting until an apartment opened up. The girlfriend and the son were driving around to try and calm their kids down. At 2250, deputy reported they were unable to locate anything.

Tuesday, May 7

1053 – A warning was provided to a driver not to park where the vehicle was parked as it is a turning lane.

1401 – Reporting party called concerning a trailer that is parked. A plate number was provided and the caller was patched up with an officer.

1711 – Caller reported a family dispute. She stated her son and his girlfriend are fighting each other. Though it was not physical at the time of the call, the caller stated it might get that way. At 1753, deputy advised tribal has one male in custody for a warrant.

Wednesday, May 8

0855 – Caller requested to speak with an officer. When questioned further, he stated someone broke into his vehicle last night and the person took his keys and wallet. He provided a description of the keys that were taken as well as the contents of the wallet. He also stated the person who now has the wallet withdrew $900 from his debit card using ATMs around town. An officer was notified.

0940 – Reporting party advised he used his debit card at a local store on Monday and there have since been two fraudulent charges. He provided the amounts and times of the charges. He also stated the bank stopped the charges so he isn’t out any money at this time.

1622 – Male caller reported an injured bald eagle on the south side of the highway about a mile east of Hinsdale. He stated they are just east of the Milk River Bridge. Fish and Game were notified who stated they have received a lot of calls on this and have tried to pass it along to the people who take care of the bird, but haven’t had any luck. One of their biologists is going to keep an eye out for the bird when he goes home in about a half hour.

2001 – Caller reported that about 20 minutes ago they saw a fire in one of the dumpster containers. He said the fire was completely contained and is probably out by now. He thought the owner of the dumpster should be notified.

2139 – While a deputy was in Frazer, he was told someone was spotlighting a shed. The deputy investigated and advised the individuals claimed they had permission from the property owner to be there however the deputy was unable to verify.

2246 – Reporting party stated the Lustre dump was on fire. The local contact was notified to let him know and he advised to call Long Run Fire. He stated the rain put the fire out but it was still smoldering. Dispatch called Long Run.

Thursday, May 9

0955 – Reporting party called requesting an officer to come check out the lock on her exterior door. She states it looks like someone has tampered with it as there is some kind of residue on it.

1237 – Reporting party called to report a truck that went on the side of the road. It almost rolled and then made a jump, landing in the ditch on all four tires. It is unknown if there are any injuries. At 1302, deputy advised the male told him he went airborne.

1259 – Reporting party called stating a female has his truck and she is not on the insurance nor the title. It is his truck and she stole the keys to it. At 1328, an officer advised the truck, per the order of protection, is to be used by the female.

1928 – A recorded message was received by dispatch stating the owner of the iPhone was involved in a severe crash. The recording gave the location. Dispatch tried contacting the cell phone but didn’t get an answer. A deputy was notified who went to the location and did not see a motor vehicle accident. After continuing to investigate near and around the provided location, the deputy was not able to locate an accident.

2115 – A 911 abandoned call was received and dispatch called back. The reporting party then called again stating she got her car stuck in a puddle and had water in the car. She got it out and went to the car wash to vacuum the rest of the water out. Her airbag and alarm went off and there was smoke in the car. She opened her doors to vent the smoke and her alarm went off but can’t be cancelled. Her dad is coming but he has a curfew and she is worried about it. Officer advised he should probably call his probation officer to okay the situation.

2151 – Reporting party stated kids are running around recklessly on a dirt bike and a four-wheeler with no taillights. A deputy spoke to the individuals and was warned about riding on the roadway at night with no lights.

Friday, May 10

1310 – A gas station reported a drive off. The caller doesn’t think it’s intentional. A description of the vehicle was provided as well as direction of travel.

1549 – Reporting party called advising there is a wash out on Willow Creek Road. There is a very large hole and believes someone should come out to at least put up some signs so no one drives into the hole. The hole is from the wash out, stated the caller.

1955 – Caller reported a garbage truck on fire on the east side of town. Deputy arrived on scene at 2022 and cleared the scene later on advising the fire was out.

2002 – Reporting party called and said there is a van in the ditch on its side with its flashers on. A description of the vehicle was provided and a deputy was notified. It was determined the doors were locked and there wasn’t anyone in the vehicle. A few minutes later a male called, reporting a rollover. Deputy and MHP were notified to respond to the scene. At 2034, a male reported he had brought in a young girl from the rollover and was trying to get her to the hospital to check her for injuries. She was adamant about not going to the hospital so she was dropped off at a hotel. A description of the female was provided. While investigating the accident, it was determined the vehicle was listed as stolen.

Saturday, May 11

1441 – Reporting party stated he needed to make a report to law enforcement about a stolen U-Haul truck that was taken from his residence. During the call, he said two girls stole the truck and are now in Great Falls. They are now asking for money so he can get the truck back. A few minutes later, the caller stated the girls were dropping off the U-Haul, rented in his name, in Great Falls. At 2327, an officer from the Butte PD called inquiring about the case as it appears the truck was being attempted to be returned to Butte.

1719 – Caller stated that her friend lives at the apartment. She stated the building owner is threatening her friend that she will be evicted from the residence if there is a violation of the lease, specifically if she does not clean up after other people’s dogs. Dispatch could faintly hear the friend in the background of the call and asked to speak with her. Speaking with the tenant, she advised that notices were taped on the doors of the building for everyone to be made aware of and they were all to clean up after any dog feces found. The notices have been up for a couple of months now. Dispatch advised this would be a civil issue and would have an officer contact her.

2059 – Caller reported he found three calf feeding items on the side of the road and placed them on a shelf at the Post Office in Opheim. A description of the items was provided. The caller checked with others in the area seeing if they lost it but they laid no claim to the items.

Monday, May 13

1740 – Caller reported his daughter was up by Centennial Park when a male tried to get his daughter into the car. It was unknown what he was wearing but the description of the vehicle was provided. At 1342, a female called to state she had more information of people who have a RING camera in the area.

1948 – Caller reported her son accidentally got the truck and trailer suck in the ditch on the road. He utilized their excavator to get the vehicle out of the ditch. In the process of getting the vehicle out, the road got turned up. A voicemail was left for the Valley County Road Department.

Tuesday, May 14

1142 – Reporting party called stating there is a semi-truck that is stuck trying to go under the underpass. He will probably need help backing out. At 1145, an officer advised the underpass is clear.

1310 – Reporting party called stating they are coming to Glasgow and there is a male subject who passed the reporting party and another vehicle. He almost hit a propane truck head on, then was tailgating the vehicle he got in behind. A description of the driver and the vehicle were provided. The reporting party stated both he and his wife will be willing to sign a complaint on this matter.

1750 – Reporting party stated he is over ¼ mile away from the city range and they heard and felt a long explosive. He stated that it sounded like a vehicle taking off away from the area at a higher rate of speed. Information was passed along to an officer who also heard what was going on. At 1805, it was advised nothing was seen in the area but an officer will go talk to the Trap Club that is in the area.

1951 – Reporting party called stating there is a truck on fire. No further information was provided. At 2002, Fire Command requested another truck for additional water. The truck was disconnected from the grain trailer and moved to a location away from the trailer. At 2044, Fire Command and all units cleared from the fire and turned over the land to the owner.

Wednesday, May 15

0836 – The superintendent of the construction company that is building the new store called stating they will be starting to repave the parking lot at the site. There is an RV that is parked and hasn’t moved since they have been there. He provided a plate number and stated it’s going to have to be moved. Officer was able to get ahold of the registered owner and they will get it moved.

1159 – Officer is out with a truck, trying to get the driver to move his rig. At 1204, the officer made contact with the driver.

1352 – Reporting party called stating she got a voicemail on her phone from someone stating they were a detective with the Valley County Sheriff’s Office and they wanted to talk to her about a case. Dispatch advised they don’t have a detective by the name that was provided in the voicemail. The caller advised a callback number was provided but she did not call them back.

1422 – Reporting party stated she has received three scam calls this week, two said her Amazon account had been used, but she doesn’t have an Amazon account. The third call stated they were with Fossum Ready Mix, but when calling back the number that was left, only a loud noise came through. The caller just wants everyone to know these calls are coming back to the area and from numbers that appear to be local.

1833 – Caller saw on Facebook there was possibly an attempted abduction at Centennial Park on Monday. She wanted to provide dispatch information of something that she witnessed on Monday and isn’t sure if it’s connected, but stated there’s possibly two vehicles involved. She was in her house when she saw a vehicle being followed by another vehicle. A description of both vehicles was provided as well as their drivers. She also stated both vehicles were driving fast and hit their brakes throwing dust. She also stated they both exchanged words and then left. The caller was patched up with an officer.

1914 – Caller reported a male was just at her residence and she doesn’t want him there because he is a nuisance. She thought he left but then he returned.

2056 – Reporting party called and requested an officer because her ex-boyfriend, who is not supposed to be on her property, just kicked in the bottom of her screen door. A description of travel and what the male is wearing was provided.

2340 – Reporting party requested an officer because someone left their diesel truck running and it’s smelling up their van. The caller shut it off once and someone came and turned it back on. They would like the officer to tell the owner to move their truck. At 2343, officer advised he found the registered owner of the pickup and asked her to move it.

Thursday, May 16

1100 – A male called stating he took a state vehicle to the gas station to fill it up with fuel. However, when he was fueling it up at the station, gas started to pour out of it. He had called for someone to come get the vehicle. When the gas tank was looked at, there was a perfectly round hole in the tank and it’s believed someone had drilled a hole in the gas tank.

1508 – Reporting party called stating he is westbound driving a truck and there is a foal stuck in the barbed wire. He can’t see the mother around either. At 1514, the owner was notified.

1905 – A building check call was recorded. An abandoned church was investigated as the door was open.

2000 – Caller reported that there was a large boom about five minutes ago that shook their house. She said there was also a boom a couple of days ago. She stated it’s possibly coming from the direction of the range. Two more calls came in regarding the boom they had heard. It was believed the noise was coming from the rifle range. It was reported that individuals were spoken to, who stated they shot a six-pound tanerite, which is legal explosive targets. They didn’t know it was going to be that loud. Officer explained complaints have been filed and if it continues it could be disorderly conduct. The officer also stated the people living in the area could complain to the Glasgow City Council and shut down the shooting range for everyone. The individuals understood and will not shoot tanerite anymore in this location. It was also advised others had been doing it also because they saw the debris. The officer reiterated that no one can shoot tanerite in this location otherwise the shooting range could get shut down.

2006 – Caller reported that he had an accident about three miles south of Opheim on Highway 24 N, putting a vehicle in the ditch. He is not injured and provided a description of the vehicle. There’s a lot of damage and the airbag deployed. He was able to drive out of the ditch and is now headed to where he’s currently living. He said an officer can call and let him know if they would like to return to the accident location. Dispatch advised a deputy who then requested the information be passed to Helena Highway Patrol.

Friday, May 17

0050 – Officer advised that a car struck his vehicle and the driver was distracted. There are no injuries and there is minimal damage to the patrol vehicle. The other driver has a few dents and the mirror is smashed. Officer advised citations were provided and officer will impound the vehicle.

0314 – A male reporting party stated a female punched him in the face and then she left after the reporting party stated he would call the police. The reporting party also stated the incident is on camera.

0439 – Deputy came upon a single-vehicle crash in the construction zone where the bridge is being replaced. He stated the vehicle went off the road and went through two marker posts in the dirt, got stuck in the dirt, but there is no driver to be found. The keys are still in the ignition. After investigating, the officer was unable to locate anyone in the construction site or along the highway up to the road. A tow company was called for the vehicle.

1201 – Caller reported a truck with a homemade camper on it that has been parked in the lot for eight to nine months. She feels someone should check on the vehicle to see if the subject is deceased. An officer later advised there is nothing suspicious with the vehicle. The camper is locked from the outside so no one is inside of it.

1328 – Reporting party came into the dispatch lobby to report his vehicle is off the road and in a field. He states his drive shaft broke and it will probably be Monday before he can get out of there.

1902 – Caller reported a fire at the Nashua dump. He’s not sure what is burning but said it smells like rubber. Nashua Fire Chief was notified and requested one tender from LRFD be paged as well.

1920 – Fire Command reported a camper that needed assistance to back out of the underpass. When officer arrived, it was advised everything is clear.

Saturday, May 18

0029 – Reporting party stated someone broke into one of their buildings. She can see a flashlight moving around in there. Deputy was notified who was going to check it out. It appears there are about three to four people out running around, but the deputies were not able to locate anything or anyone.

1543 – Caller reported there are cross arms down in Nashua. BNSF Railroad was notified who stated they have a maintainer on the way who should arrive within two hours. At 1723, a reporting party advised the cross arms were going up and down now and there are vehicles heading through them. He is concerned and requested the number for the railroad so he can advise them of the liability the crossing not being fixed could cause. Dispatch called BNSF again who stated they are having the trains travel through the area very slowly but maintenance should be out there soon.

1745 – Reporting party is out at the lake and has been trying to make phone calls out to others but with no luck. Someone mentioned to him that if 911 isn’t working then something must be wrong so he tested calling 911. The caller then asked if there was something wrong with Nemont, which the dispatch stated there appears to be something around pertaining to local carriers.

1822 – A vandalism call was recorded. When deputy arrived on scene, he stated there was no one in the area when he arrived. The trailer is abandoned and can’t tell which damage is recent or old. He then spoke to the reporting party who was not able to provide a description but deputy did locate cameras that were facing the trailer.

1943 – Caller reported there were three people peeking into her window just now.

2226 – Reporting party is seeing multiple lights, maybe three or four, moving around in the shop building. She then saw one of the lights move behind the building and head toward their house, then head off into the field toward the plant.

2321 – Caller reported a suspect was out there and startled his dogs, waking him up. About 10 minutes later, a female also reported things were going on, but wasn’t sure if it was someone fighting again. At 2355, dispatch talked to the original reporting party again and said his nephew might know who the suspect might be. Dispatch reported a conversation occurred but they couldn’t make out what was saying.

Sunday, May 19

0321 – Caller reporting a fire alarm and two panic alarms at the location. Long Run as well as Frazer and Nashua Fire were notified. Alarm company then called back stating two other fire alarms and two other panic alarms were going off as well. At 0346, alarm company called back stating they got ahold of a male, who requested to cancel the response. A deputy was also enroute, who later advised there was no active flames going on at the location. It was determined that alarms were going off in two of the apartments, but it’s a regular occurrence. There was no visible fire, smoke build up, or smell of smoke, Fire Units were canceled.
