Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Irle Elementary students started May 1 off with an assembly provided by special guests VFW Post 3017 members Art Widhalm, Jason Myers, Joe Yeoman and Doug Peterson. These guests spoke to the students about Loyalty Day, which occurs every May 1 to reinforce loyalty to our country. The day was first designated by Congress in 1958 and was initiated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The speakers explained to the students that Loyalty Day is the day citizens should show loyalty by listening to teachers, parents and obeying the laws of the country. They also stressed that though every day students should be good citizens, May 1 is always a reminder to be the best citizens they can be. After the assembly, the representatives provided pencils to the classroom teachers to hand out to their students.
