Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Glasgow Police Department Patrolman Josh Ames followed the Special Olympics torch to Billings for the Montana Law Enforcement Torch Run State Games, which took place May 15-17. After competing in the area games in Sidney earlier in the week, local athletes brought their all against athletes from all over the state and came home with medals.
According to organizers of the Special Olympics Summer Games, the Special Olympics are not just about sports; it's a celebration of abilities and a showcase of the incredible talents of athletes with intellectual disabilities. State Summer Games provide a platform for these individuals to compete, socialize, and forge lasting connections. Beyond the medals and accolades, the event is a testament to the strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit of the athletes.
The games not only bring together the athletes, but also families, volunteers, and spectators from all walks of life, creating an atmosphere of unity and acceptance. From the opening ceremonies to the final events, the sense of camaraderie is palpable, making Special Olympics more than just a sports competition – it's a celebration of Inclusion at its best.
During a gathering, the event honored and remembered Donnie Bailey, whose biggest passion was competing in the Special Olympics and was an athlete for 53 years.
It wasn't all competition for these area athletes as they also had the opportunity to explore ZooMontana for some downtime.
