Valley County May Election Results

Valley County School District and the Fort Peck Rural County Water District Special District Election was held on May 7.

The following are the unofficial results as each school board and the District board finalize these results with the canvass during their next scheduled meetings.

The Glasgow School Student Safety Building Levy failed with 880 votes against and 675 votes for. The Building Fund Safety Levy asked if the Board of Trustees should be authorized to annually levy 12.18 mills, approximately $197,500 each year in the Building Reserve Fund for the purpose of planning for improvements to and maintenance of school and student safety; programs to support school and student safety and security; installing or updating security-related facility improvements; and installing or updating response systems using contemporary technologies.

The passage would have increased the taxes on a home with an assessed market value of $100,000 by approximately $16.44 and on a home with an assessed market value of $300,000 by approximately $49.32 and on a home with an assess market value of $600,000 by approximately $98.64. The durational limit of this levy was intended to be permanent.

The Hinsdale Elementary School General Fund Levy passed with 83 for and 26 against.

The Hinsdale High School General Fund Levy passed with 82 for and 27 against.

The Lustre Elementary School General Fund Levy passed with 32 for and five against.

Voters in the Nashua School District voted to fill the two open trustee positions that were held by incumbents Tim Bellon and Sharon Merideth, as their terms had expired. In addition to Bellon and Merideth running to keep their seats on the board, newcomers Kayla Thievin and Mark Bengochea challenged the incumbents for a seat and won. Thievin received 164 votes while Bengochea received 228 votes. Bellon received 157 votes while Merideth received 104 votes.

The Frazer School District also held a Trustee Election to fill two three-year trustee positions. Landon Olfert, with 64 votes, and Daryl Quilty, with 53 votes, were elected to fill these positions. Also running were Michael Redstone, who received 36 votes, Jewel Fourtstar, who received 33 votes, Mary Sue Jackson, who received 35 votes, and Dori Talks Different, who received 28 votes.

In addition to the school election, there was also a Special District Election for the Fort Peck Rural County Water District to fill two trustee roles. Josh Kittleson, with 233 votes, and Samuel Morehouse, with 249, votes, will serve in those roles. The other two running for those positions were Mary Kaercher, who received 88 votes and Debra Steffani, who received 84 votes.
