Glasgow School Board Meets In Regular Session

Flaten Offered Superintendent Position; Swears In New Trustees

The Glasgow School Board met in regular session on May 8, with the meeting starting off with the annual re-organization of the board of trustees. The first order of business was the canvass and approval of the election results from the May 7 school election, which includes the failure of the $197,500 Safety and Security Building Reserve Fund Levy and the election, by acclamation, of Chrissa Nelson and Derek Beadle to the Board of Trustees.

After the motion was carried for the canvass and approval of the election results, Clerk Kelly Doornek swore in Nelson and Beadle to their new terms as trustees and the nominations for board officers were addressed. Angie Page will continue to serve as chairman while Blaine White will serve as vice-chairman.

After the re-organization was complete, the regular school board meeting started with the approval of the personnel action report. Kalu Rogenes was recommended for hire as a volunteer EMT instructor, classified staff renewals for 2024-25 were presented for approval as well as listed advisors and sports coaches. Also noted was a resignation effective April 17 and two teachers have resigned their positions effective the last day of school. With a motion by Stan Ozark, and seconded by Nelson, the motion carried for approval.

After interviewing current Athletic Director and Irle School Vice Principal Brenner Flaten on May 1 for the open Superintendent Position, the Glasgow School Board voted unanimously to offer a contract to Flaten to be the next Superintendent of Glasgow Schools. Contract negotiations are currently ongoing and a meeting was set for May 13 to allow for further discussions.

It was also reported at the meeting that student enrollment for the school district is at 740, which is 13 students down from this time last year and two students down from last month. It was also noted that 76 percent of the budget has been spent. Tours for incoming kindergarteners have started and it’s expected there will be approximately 55 to 60 new students starting at the elementary school in the fall.

The next regular board meeting is set for Wednesday, June 12, 6 p.m. in the District Boardroom, located at 229 7th St. N., Glasgow.
