Nashua's FFA Host Fundraiser For Town's Senior Citizens Center

Within our very own community of Nashua, the Nashua Public School has reintroduced an agricultural curriculum into the school and is offered to grades eight through 12. Future Farmers of America (FFA) is an intra-curricular part of the program and students are given the option to serve as members of the officially chartered FFA-MT0142. Our vision is to grow a program designed to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and experiences in and about agriculture.

The goal of our Agricultural Education is to show that agriculture skills, like science, math, communication, leadership, management, and technology, all play into other aspects of the world. At the root of it, it combines applied sciences and business management. It also explores the significant importance of how agriculture affects the world, how agriculture is interdependent with other significant businesses that make up the economic and social structure, and how it meets the needs of modern society.

The agricultural students and members of the Nashua FFA strategically developed a community engagement plan that would directly impact the community and promote positive change.

One such event occurred on April 28, Nashua's FFA members hosted a fundraiser for Nashua's Senior Citizens Center. The funding for the event was made possible by the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging. Nashua's Public School Superintendent Jeanine Sundby applied for the grant monies through the Department of Public Health and Human Services and Nashua was awarded the Mini-Grant Award. The funds provided supper and prizes for approximately 30 people at Nashua's Senior Citizen Center's Bingo event.

The community joined together for the afternoon playing blackout, T, X, and b i n g o for three hours while sharing stories and visiting with friends. Supper was at 5 p.m. and was delicious. A total of $464 was raised for the Nashua Senior Citizen Center.

Nashua's FFA President Gracyn Sibley and Treasurer David Kennedy did a fantastic job with the bingo fundraiser and would like to say thank you to Mrs. Sundby and Ms. Knowlton as well.

Community Service helps foster a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility for students, and contributes significantly to the development, betterment, and growth of local communities.
