County Schools Participate In District Music Festival

Many Solos and Ensembles Qualify For State This Weekend

A year of hard work came to fruition during the District 12/13 Music Festival in Culbertson April 19 and 20. Students from Hinsdale, Nashua, Lustre and Glasgow put on quite the show to the judges, showcasing the vocal and instrumental talent in Valley County.

Those who achieved Superior ratings will be moving on to attend the State Music Festival May 3 and 4 in Billings.

Glasgow

Under the direction of Melissa Mickelson, the following Glasgow choral performances earned these ratings during the District Music Festival.

Superior:

Gabe Proctor, solo and duet 

Sebastian Gregg, solo

Vick Overbey, solo and duet

Aspen Probert, solo and duet

Amber Pearson, solo

Nashua

Melissa Mickelson is also the band/choir director of Nashua School. "I couldn't be prouder of our band and choir students' performances at Music Festival. They earned a superior rating for both their performance as well as their sight reading," reflected Mickelson after the Festival.

The following Nashua performances earned these ratings during the District Music Festival.

Superior:

Caden Laumeyer – Solo Saxophone

Allie Greenough – Solo Vocal

Excellent: 

Caden Laumeyer, John Grimes and Maria Grimes - Instrumental Trio

Maria Grimes – Flute Solo

Lustre Christian High School

Under the direction of Dan Marasco, the following Lustre Christian High School students achieved Superior ratings during the District Music Festival.

Hannah Marasco - Vocal Solo with "For Your Pleasure" by Farrell

Byron Ewing - Vocal Solo with "Go Down Moses" arranged by Royal Stanton

Katie Calderon - Vocal Solo with "Castle on a Cloud" by Boulbill & Schoenberg

Rachel Pew/Anna Teichroew - Vocal Duet with "Homeward Bound" arranged by Jay Alhouse.

Hannah Marasco - Piano Solo with "Schlummerlied" by Schumann

Hannah Brown - Piano Solo with "Intrada" by Graupner

Emeka Aniobi - Baritone Saxophone Solo with "Deep River"

LCHS Sophomore Duo - Nathan Fast – Trombone and Diek Olfert - Trumpet Duet with "Easy Does It" by Agioritis

LCHS Trumpet Trio - Grace Brown, Abby Olfert, Diek Olfert with "Gavotte in Rondeau" by Lully,

Sax Trio -- Mason Hilkemann, Cam Reddig, and Hadden Olfert with "Amazing Grace" however will not be able to attend due to a conflict.

Hinsdale School

Under the direction of Hinsdale High School's Heidi Johnson, the following Hinsdale students earned these ratings during the District Music Festival:

Superior

Andrew Boucher – Vocal Solo with "My Rifle, My Pony and Me"

Zora Holt – Clarinet Solo with "Scottish Folk Song Meadley"

Hinsdale Jazz Band with "Sweet Georgia Brown"

The Hinsdale Band consists of BaiLee McColly, Lyli Bear, Andrew Boucher, Linden Holt, Becca Olsen, Zora Holt, Kade Strommen, Jaydeen Hanshew, Coy Bowman, CharLee McColly, Layna Jones, Brynlie Boreson, Kodi McColly and Berkley Hillman
