Scottie Softball Beats Glendive, Falls in Shepherd Triangle

The Scottie softball team earned their first win of the season April 2, downing Glendive 14-7 on the road. Glasgow dropped two road games April 5 at the Shepherd Triangle, falling 23-0 to Shepherd and 27-17 to Conrad.

In Glendive, Macy Martin was first to cross home plate in the game, scoring on a Tatum Nyquist fielder’s choice. Glasgow shut out Glendive in the bottom of the inning before the hosts returned the favor in the top of the second. Glendive scored three times in the bottom to take a 3-1 lead into the third.

Glasgow tied the game in the top of the third when Hayden Green doubled on a fly ball and drove Nyquist and Halle Hunter home. The scored stayed knotted at 3-3 until the top of the fifth when the Scotties crossed home plate six times.

Tessa Miller started the scoring streak with a double line drive to center field and sending Hunter and Berkley Hillman home. Ella Eggebrecht kept it going with a triple ground ball to right field, sending Green, Miller and Riley Clampitt over the plate, before scoring herself on a CharLee McColly ground out. Glendive scored once to cut Glasgow’s lead to 9-4.

Both teams put up two runs in the sixth. Glasgow’s scores came from Hunter on a Hillman single and Nyquist on a Miller line drive. The Scotties put up three more runs in the seventh while holding the Red Devils to one. McColly scored on a Hunter single, Martin on a Hillman double fly ball, and Hunter on a Nyquist ground out.

Glasgow outhit Glendive 15-6 in the game while committing five errors to Glendive’s four. Hillman went 4-for-5 at bat, Hunter 3-for-5 and Miller 2-for-4. Martin, Nyquist, Green, Clampitt, Eggebrecht and McColly notched one hit a piece. Miller and Eggebrecht led in RBIs, both with three, followed by Hillman, Nyquist and Green, each with two. Hunter and McColly had an RBI each. Hunter had the team’s only stolen base.

Martin went the distance in the pitcher’s circle, allowing seven runs on six hits with six strike outs.

Glasgow faced far stiffer competition at the Shepherd Triangle, coming up a hot Fillies team first. Shepherd jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning and built on throughout the five innings. They scored three runs in the second, third and fourth, and closed with an 11-run onslaught in the fifth.

Brynn Donaldson took the loss in the pitcher’s circle, allowing 25 runs and 17 hits with two strikeouts. Glasgow’s lone hit in the game came from Martin, who went 1-for-2 at bat. Shepherd played a clean game while Glasgow had eight errors.

The Scotties faced Conrad next. The score stood at 1-1 after one, with with Martin scoring on a Green ground ball in the bottom. Neither team lit up the scoreboard in the second. Conrad briefly held a 2-1 lead int eh top of the third, but Glasgow came back with three runs of their own. Nyquist drove Hunter home on a single, before scoring herself on a Miller double line drive to center field. Miller scored on a Clampitt single to right field.

Conrad fired up the bats in the fourth with nine runs, while the Scotties scored another three times. Hunter drove McColly home on a line drive to right field before crossing home herself on a Hillman single to right field. Nyquist then drove Hillman home with a line drive to center field.

Conrad sent another six runners home in the top of the fifth while Glasgow added another three to the scoreboard. Hunter’s hard ground ball to center field sent Kelbi Wersal and McColly home and Hunter scored on a Nyquist double line drive to center field. Conrad scored one run in the top of the sixth while Glasgow put up seven runs to cut Conrad’s lead to one.

McColly drove Miller home on a hard ground ball single. Wersal scored on loaded bases when Hillman was walked. McColly and Hnter were sent home on a Nyquist double to center field followed by Hillman and Nyquist scoring on a Green home run.

The Scotties were shut out in the bottom of the seventh after Conrad scored another 10 runs to win 27-17.

Glasgow was outhit 23-17 in the game and committed 10 errors to Conrad’s three.

Martin spent all seven innings in the pitcher’s circle, allowing 27 runs on 23 hits with six strikeouts.

Nyquist led in hits, going 4-for-5 at bat, followed by Hunter and McColly who both went 3-for-4. Green, Miller and Clampitt all had two hits with Hillman notching one in the game. Nyquist had five RBIs in leading Glasgow followed by Hunter and Green, both with three, and Hillman with two.

Glasgow was in Sidney April 9 but scores and stats were unavailable at press time. Miller, Clampitt and McColly had one RBI a piece. Martin and Hunter each had a stolen base.

The Scotties will attend the Lewistown Invitational Friday and Saturday, April 12-13. They play Lockwood at 1:30 p.m. and Stillwater, both games on Field 4, at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Glasgow plays Shelby at 11 a.m. on Field 3 and Fergus at 3 p.m. on Field 1 Saturday.

Glasgow will be in Havre Tuesday, April 16.
