Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Life Skills day was held on Feb. 25 in Opheim for members of Valley County 4-H. The goal of Life Skills Day is to help youth gain confidence in their public speaking, while learning more on the skill or topic they are presenting.
Participants were able to choose from several events such as demonstrations, illustrated talks, impromptu, speeches, mock interviews, and quilt show and tell. Participants were divided into separate age divisions seniors, juniors, and pre-juniors and judged accordingly.
Rosette winners included senior division Linden Holt with his talk on Boston Tea Party Ships & Museums. Pre-junior division Sheila Mason won a Rosette with her illustrated talk called "Do You Know Your Rabbit Breeds?" Also, in the pre-junior division was Mavin Edwards with her illustrated talk on "How to make chocolate chip cookies."
The winner of the Rosette for the mock interviews was Zora Holt. Rosettes were also awarded to the winners of the short takes or the impromptu talks in each age division. Winners were senior Zora Holt, junior Lana Mason, and pre-junior Jace Lacock
The following clubs were represented: Four Leaf Clover, Lucky Clover, Tampico Boys, Western Valley, Cherry Creek, Milk River Beavers, and host club Northern Lights.
The event was a success and every one left learning a new fact about a life skill and gained lots confidence in their public speaking. Huge thank you to our judges Cathy Bailey, Carli Davis, Danielle Hallock, Donette Johnson, Debbie Nelson, Lynette Nelson-Hagen, Darlis Nordhagen, Alice Redfield, Chase Redfield and Dale Tarum. Also thank you to Opheim School for always letting us use the facility. See you next year.
