Lustre Boys Top Eastern C Divisional

Earn Repeat Trip to State

The Lustre Christian boys basketball team hoisted their second Eastern C Divisional trophy in as many years Friday night as the Lions claimed a 56-47 victory over the Plentywood Wildcats in the title game. Lustre opened the tournament Feb. 28 in Glasgow with a dominant 64-28 win over the Savage Warriors. The win advanced the Lions to the semifinals Thursday night where they downed the Circle Wildcats by 25 points, 68-43.

Lustre opened Wednesday against Savage and raced out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter. The Lions outpaced the Warriors 19-11 in the second for a 32-13 lead going into the third quarter, where they put up 15 and held Circle to 10 points. Lustre went on a 17-5 run in the final eight minutes for the 64-28 win.

Cayden Klatt led all scorers with 15, followed closely by Cam Reddig and Johnslee Pierre, both with 13 points. Terran Joseph scored 10, Byron Ewing 6, Joel Reddig 4 and Clay Reddig 3 points. Cam Reddig had five assists to lead the Lions while Clay Reddig and Prestyn Klatt both had two. C. Klatt had one helper.

Clay Reddig and Ewing both grabbed five rebounds while Pierre and Cam Reddig snagged four each. Joseph, P. Klatt and Hadden Olfert had three boards. C. Klatt and Brian Guedes pulled two each. Pierre led in steals with seven followed by Cam Reddig and Ewing, both with three. Guedes had two takeaways while C. Klatt, Joseph, Diek Olfert and P. Klatt all put one on the stats sheet. Ewing knocked down two Savage shots and J. Reddig and Pierre had one blocked shot a piece.

The Lions took on the Circle Wildcats the following night, leading from the first basket of the night. Lustre put up 18 in the first and held Circle to 7 points, while outpacing them 19-11 in the second to carry a 37-18 lead into the third quarter. Lustre outscored Circle by three in the remaining two quarters – 13-10 and 18-15 – for the 68-43 victory.

Pierre led all scorers with 13, followed by C. Klatt and Joseph,both with 12 points. Ewing hit for 10 while Clay Reddig and Cam Reddig both added 7 to the scoreboard. J. Reddig hit a trey with D. Olffert and Nathan Fast hitting a basket each. Joel Reddig had five assists in leading Lustre while Clay Reddig and C. Klatt both had three helpers. Pierre had two assists and Guedes one.

Ewing led in rebounds with nine followed by Pierre with five and C. Klatt with four. Jospeh and Cam Reddig both had three boards while Clay Reddig had two and D. Olfert and H. Olfert one each. Pierre had three steals to lead the Lions followed by Cam Reddig with two, and Joseph and Ewing, both with one.

The win moved the Lions into the chipper Friday night, their second trip to the title game in two years, where they faced the Plentywood Wildcats. Lustre held a three-point lead at the end of the first – 15-12 – and at the half – 27-24. The margin held at the end of three quarters after both teams put up 15 points. Lustre held Plentywood to 8 points in the fourth while putting up 14 on their side of the scoreboard fr the 56-47 title win.

Clay Reddig and Ewing both put up 16 points in the Lions' victory, with Reddig going 7-of-9 from the field. C. Klatt added 11 points followed by Cam Reddig and Pierre, both with 5 points. Joseph added a bucket from downtown. C. Klatt had four assists in leading Lustre followed by Clay Reddig and Cam Reddig, both with two helpers. Pierre added one assist to the books.

Ewing pulled down eight rebounds for Lustre, followed by Clay Reddig and Cam Reddig with four each. Pierre had three and Joseph 1 board. Pierre and Clay Reddig had two takeaways for the Lions with Cam Reddig putting one steal on the stats sheet. Pierre knocked down three Plentywood shots and Ewing blocked one shot.

Lustre Christian enters the MHSA 2024 State Class C Boys Basketball Tournament at the Montana ExpoPark in Great Falls as the number one seed out of the East. They will face either Jordan or Melstone, who played a challenge game Monday night for the right to attend the State Tournament. A final score from that game was unavailable at press time. The Lions will hit the court at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 6. The tournament will run Wednesday through Saturday, March 6-9.
