Ice Dawgs Take Top Slot in BSHS East

Only Team With One Loss in BSHS

The Ice Dawgs swept the Great Falls Americans at the Valley Event Center this past weekend and with the two wins, the Dawgs claimed the top slot in the BSHS East with a 12-1-0 record, the only team in the league with a single loss. Glasgow and Miles City both have 24 points in the East while Butte leads the West, also with 24 points.

Glasgow scored once in each period Friday night to defeat Great Falls 3-1. Saturday, the Dawgs scored four times in the second period for a 6-3 victory.

Great Falls scored first Friday night, midway through the first, but Charlie Cornwell tied the game 45 seconds later with help from Bode Barnett. The two combined for the Dawgs’ remaining two goals with Barnett scoring off Cornwell in the second and third periods for the win.

Glasgow had 43 minutes in the box on eight infractions while Great Falls held their penalties to five and 10 minutes. Tavin Boland, roughing, first; Lex Fairclough, interference, first; Fairclough, elbowing, second; Tatum Hansen, head-butting 5-and-10 game misconduct, second; Mason Hunter, hooking, second; Peyton Smith, unsportsmanlike misconduct, third, and Zevin Kummerfeldt, unsportsmanlike misconduct, third, served time for the Dawgs.

Goaltender Jacob Potter turned in a .966 save percentage, turning away 15 shots on his net. Glasgow put 44 pucks on net at the other end of the ice.

Brody Hansen started the scoring Saturday morning on a Dawgs power play, finding the back of the net in the first with help from Barnett. Great Falls tied the game less than 30 seconds later and took the lead less than 30 seconds into the second period. B. Hansen knotted the score several minutes later but the Americans took the lead again midway through the period. The tying goal for Glasgow came from Barnett before Hunter gave the Dawgs a lead on the man advantage. B. Hansen netted a PPG and the hat trick with help from T. Hansen with a second remaining before intermission. Boland scored late in the third with help from Eli Howland to seal Glasgow’s win.

Glasgow went 3-for-6 on the power play, taking advantage of Great Falls’ eight infractions and 24 minutes in the box, while holding their own penalties to nine with 18 minutes served. Hunter, tripping, first; Glasgow team, too many men on the ice, first; B. Hansen, roughing, first; Barnett, cross-checking, second; Barnett, hooking, second; B. Hansen, high-sticking, third; Josh Llewellyn, unsportsmanlike conduct, third; Hunter, roughing, third, and Barnett, hooking, third, took involuntary seats for Glasgow.

Potter faced 10 attempts on his net for a .700 save percentage while his teammates put 16 pucks on the Great Falls goal.

The Bantam Ice Dawgs came home from Billings with two wins over the Bulls: 8-3 Friday and 9-0 Saturday, giving goaltender Rivers Sugg his first-ever shut out.

Glasgow scored once in the first, three times in the second and four times in the third while holding Billings to three goals in the second period Friday. Henry; Miller, assist Ian Anderson, Anderson and Anderson, goal scorers for Glasgow. Sugg turned away 10 shots for a .769 save percentage.

Saturday the Bantam Ice Dawgs put two pucks in net in the first, scored four times in the second, and closed out the game with three goals in the third period. Glasgow’s goals came from Partridge; Ellery Dedobbeleer (PPG), assist Partridge; Anderson; Llewellyn, assist Miller; Dedeobbeleer, assist Miller; Partridge, assists Miller and Llewellyn; Anderson; Anderson, and Partridge (PPG), assist Llewellyn.

The high school Ice Dawgs return to action Friday through Sunday, Feb. 9-11. The Dawgs will be in Miles City Friday, Feb. 9, for a 6 p.m. game followed by an 8 a.m. game Saturday, Feb. 10. Glasgow hosts Havre Sunday, Feb. 11, at 4:30 p.m.

The Bantams will be back on the ice Saturday, Feb. 17, for a doubleheader in Havre with games at noon and 8 p.m.
