Glasgow's Proctor Finishes Second, Whitmer Finishes Sixth
The Frazer and Glasgow teams had an exciting time this past weekend in Choteau, competing in the State Speech and Drama Competition. The first day of competition, Jan. 26, saw the students completing the first three rounds of the competition. The next day, Jan. 27, saw the students finish the fourth round, determine if they break into semi-finals and then the finals round were that evening.
Under the direction of coach Mary Zuchowski, two Frazer students competed in the State meet, Marick Old Person and Kalianna Blount. Of the top 20 in State, Old Person placed 18th in spontaneous oral interpretation and Blount made it to the semi-finals to take 14th in Mime.
"I am Bearcub Proud on how the season ended! Everyone learned a little, had some fun and above all else, tried something new. What a team!" reflected Zuchowski.
Under the direction of Coaches Carla Swenson and Katerina Heiser, four Glasgow students traveled to compete in the State meet, Harley "Leon" Edwards, Connor Whitmer, Gabe Proctor and Kai Combs. After the first four rounds, though Combs had an amazing weekend, they did not break into the semi-finals, placing 19th in Dramatic Oral Interpretation.
Edwards, Whitmer and Proctor moved onto the semi-finals, where the top eight in each event went on to the finals. Whitmer and Proctor's placing in their events, allowed them to compete in the finals. Edwards would take 13th in State for their event of Dramatic Solo.
After competing in finals, Whitmer placed sixth in the state for Spontaneous Oral Interpretation, and Proctor placed second in Humorous Oral Interpretation. These two competitors will advance to the National Speech and Debate Association to see if they place in the top third in the state. If so, then they would advance to the National Competition in June.
"Harley (Leon) worked so hard this last round. We are so proud of their S/D high school performance. We wish them all the luck in the future as they graduate!," expressed Swenson and Heiser.
