Ice Dawgs Beat Americans

The high school Ice Dawgs added two wins to their record this past weekend in Great Falls. The Dawgs defeated the Americans 4-1 Jan. 20 and 4-3 the following day.

Glasgow scored twice in the second and third periods in game one, holding the Americans to one goal in the final period in their first win. Peyton Smith scored first on an assist from Tavin Boland and assisted on Brody Hansen’s goal to make it 2-0 at the end of the second. Great Falls scored early in the the third to cut the Dawgs’ lead in half, but Smith scored on the power play with help from Tatum Hansen to hold the lead steady midway through. Boland scored short-handed to seal the win with 14 seconds left to play.

Glasgow racked up 35 penalty minutes on eight infractions. Great Falls also had eight calls go against them, serving 27 minutes. Connor Koski, tripping, and Smith, roughing, served time in the second. Mason Hunter was called for a 5-and-10 fighting and game misconduct in the third. Zevin Kummerfeldt, interference; T. Hansen, cross-checking, and Lex Fairclough, 2-and-10 head contact, also sat in the sin bin in the final period.

Dawgs’ goaltender Jacob Potter faced only 10 attempts on his net for a .900 save percentage in the win. Glasgow put 32 pucks on the Great Falls netminder.

Great Falls hit the ice Sunday taking a 2-1 lead after one period. The Americans found the back of the net twice before T. Hansen cut their lead in half. The Hansen brothers tied the game in the second, with T. Hansen assisting on B. Hansen’s PPG. Glasgow fell behind by a goal again less than a minute into the third, but a goal from Dillon Hughes, assist Fairclough, brought the game even. Bode Barnett scored with 5:50 remaining, taking advantage of the power play and assists from Kummerfeldt and B. Hansen, to improve Glasgow’s record to 10-1-0.

Potter faced 21 shots in the crease, turning in an .857 save percentage, while his teammates scored on four of 19 shots on the Great Falls goaltender.

The Dawgs held their time in the penalty box to four minutes on two calls while Great Falls had eight penalties for 32 minutes. T. Hansen, interference, and Koski, tripping, each took involuntary seats in the second period for Glasgow.

The Bantam Ice Dawgs split their games in Billings, losing 5-3 in game one Jan. 21 before rebounding with a 7-1 victory.

Glasgow scored once in each period in game one with Breckin Partridge, Ellery Dedobbeleer (SHG) and Ian Anderson finding the back of the net for the Dawgs. Goaltender Rivers Sugg faced 13 shots between the pipes for a .615 save percentage while the Glasgow offense fired 44 shots at the Billings netminder. The Dawgs served 20 minutes on six penalties while Billings had four calls for eight minutes.

The Dawgs opened the offensive spigot in period two of game two, finding the back of the net four times before intermission while holding Billings to a single goal in the period. Dedobbeleer; Abigail Henry, PPG, assist Jack Miller; Ian Anderson, SHG, assist Miller, and Tay Morehouse, PPG, assist Dedobbeleer, scored for Glasgow in the second. Morehouse; Partridge, assist Henry, and Orion Henry, PPG, scored in the third to bring home the Dawgs’ win.

Glasgow put 35 shots on net while Carter Holte, in net for the Dawgs, turned away 10 of 11 shots for a .909 save percentage.

The High School Ice Dawgs welcome the Americans to town this weekend for a doubleheader rematch with games at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, and 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27. The Bantams are back in Billings for games at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
