Despite Late Run, Mavs Drop To Scobey Spartans

The North Country Mavericks basketball team hosted the Scobey Spartans in Saco last Saturday.

The Spartans won 63-41 despite a late 16-5 run in the fourth quarter by the Mavs.

The Mavericks were led by Blaine Downing, who scored 15 points. Coy Bowman had 10 points. Kade Strommen had seven points. Laytin Erickson had four points. Jake Brown had three points, and Chase Albus had two points.

Scobey took a 22-8 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter and extended that lead 37-13 by halftime. Scobey outscored the Mavericks 21-12 in the third quarter. North Country had their highest scoring output in the fourth quarter, outscoring Scobey 16-5.

North Country is scheduled to face the Lustre Christian Lions on Friday, Jan. 12, in Lustre at 7 p.m. The Lady Mavericks are also scheduled to host the Nashua Porcupines on Saturday, Jan. 13, in Hinsdale at 7 p.m.
