Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Dear Editor,
Does this little "poem" warrant a spot in your Courier? I don't know where it came from, but thought it was kind of interesting.
Thank you,

The Price Of A Good Life
Farms are a funny lot, some work hard, some do not.
Some get up early, some sleep late, some have good intentions and some are up for debate.
But most farmers are good and do what they can to raise up a family and live off the land.
But some city folks lately have had some concern that the government is paying farmers more than they earn.
I guess I'd give up what I've been given, but the simple truth is I can't make a liven:
Then there is feed and seed and fertilizer bills, health insurance, it can make a man ill.
The cost of machinery can make you fall through the floor. A new combine can cost $300,000 or more!
Farm wives work out like most woman do to buy food an an outfit or two.
Last year I figured out what money I made, all I had left was what the government paid.
I had to give some of it back but got wild with the rest. I got myself a bird dog and me and my wife a hunting vest.
