Frazer Takes First In Class C Speech At Hays Lodge Pole Tournament
Lustre Christian High School, Frazer School and Glasgow High School started their Speech and Drama season on Nov. 4 with the Glasgow Scottie Meet held at Glasgow High School. Community members, students and staff helped make the all-day event a success by volunteering their time in judging the various events, providing food and supporting the home team.
Glasgow's team, under coaches Carla Swenson and Sheena Wilcox, saw Gabe Proctor win second in humorous oral interpretation (HOI), Kai Combs won fourth in Dramatic Oral Interpretation (DOI), Harley Edwards placed fifth in Dramatic Solo while Mirax Lipscomb and Olivia Helland had a great start to the season with their Humorous Theater.
After a year hiatus, the Frazer Speech and Drama team is back at it in competition with De'mon Grandchamp, Takoa Old Person, Kalianna Blount, Ryan Beston, Dallas Blount, Marick Old Person and Chase Jackson, under coach Mary Zuchowski. Though they gave their best effort, they did not place in the Glasgow Meet. That did not stop them in putting in the hard work throughout the week as they placed in the next meet at Roundup on Nov. 11.
In Dramatic Interpretation Frazer's K. Blount took sixth, D. Blount placed 11th and Beston placed 12th.
In SOI M. Old Person took seventh while Grandchamp took eighth. In Humorous Interpretation T. Old Person placed 12th.
For Glasgow at the Roundup meet, "all the kids did so good especially for the first early travel day," stated Coach Swenson. There were some first place finishes with Proctor in HOI, Connor Whitmer in SOI and Leon Edwards placing first in Dramatic Solo. Combs placed fourth in DOI while Helland and Ash James just missed finals with their ninth place finish in Humorous Theater.
Both teams traveled to the Billings area this past weekend where Glasgow competed in the Billings Central Meet and Frazer competed in the Hays Lodge Pole Tournament, both on Nov. 18.
According to Coach Zuchowski, the Bearcubs had an excellent showing. M. Old Person placed third and Grandchamp placed fourth in SPOI while T. Old Person placed third in HOI.
In DOI, Frazer claimed the top three spots with K. Blount placing third, R. Beston placing second and D. Blount taking home the first place medal. In adding up all of the points associated with the teams' placing in the speech events, the Frazer team took home first place for Class C Speech.
The Glasgow team saw some success in their Billings Central Meet also. In SOI, Whitmer came in third. In Humorous Duo, Helland and James came in 15th with Combs following at 22nd. In Humorous Solo, Lipscomb came in 16th.
The teams will continue to compete throughout the next few months as they get ready for the Divisional meet January 19 and 20.
