Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Yvonne Lee (Monson) Hatley passed away peacefully at WyndStone in Billings, Mont., where she lived for the final year of her life.
The kind and professional care she received from the staff in the Meadowlark Assisted Living unit and the Novak Memory Care Cottage was exceptional and sincerely appreciated by Vonnie and her family.
Vonnie was born in Glasgow, Mont., on Sept. 23, 1945, the youngest of seven children of Julian and Effie Monson. She attended school in Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1963. She played the clarinet in the Scottie band and wore the traditional Scottish Kilt uniform which pleased Vonnie's family much more than it pleased her.
Vonnie began her career in banking while in school, working part time at the First National Bank in Glasgow. She continued banking at US Bank in Bismarck, N.D., until retirement. Vonnie and a group of fellow retirees gathered for lunch monthly for many years.
Vonnie married Arlyn Jerry Hatley and they made their home in Bismarck, Mont. They enjoyed their home in the country, gardening and feeding the wildlife that visited. They rode their Harley-Davidson on short and long trips. Vonnie and Jerry were classic car collectors. They had several beautiful models that they always kept in immaculate condition. Several times they drove one of their classics to Florida during the winter to enjoy the warm beaches. They managed to take no interstate highways during these trips, often leading to interesting adventures.
Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and siblings Jule (Buster) Monson, Evelyn (Sister) Sandmeyer, Donna Maag, Arlys Wagner, Gerald Paul (Babe) Monson; nephews Darrell Monson, Richard Schultz, James Wagner, Kelly Monson; and niece Randon Monson Billman.
Vonnie is survived by her brother, Leland R. Monson; and 15 nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, N.D.
