Scottie Volleyball Season Ends at Divisional

The 2023 volleyball season ended for the Glasgow Scotties in Malta this past weekend at the Northern B Divisional Tournament. The Scotties took a loss in the first round to the Fairfield Eagles before falling to the Wolf Point Wolves in loser-out action.

Glasgow lost 8-25, 13-25, 16-25 to eventual-Divisional champ Fairfield Thursday. The Eagles put up 57 digs, six aces, 35 assists, 34 kills and eight blocks while the Scotties had 45 digs, 16 assists, 17 kills and six blocks. Head coach Brooke Martin said, "They came out pretty shell shocked against Fairfield but got themselves together and played them as close as a lot of the other teams did."

Joely Chappell led Glasgow in digs with 15 while Macy Martin had 14 of Glasgow's assists. Halle Hunter notched six kills. Hayden Green and Gina Page split the team's blocks evenly.

Glasgow returned to the court to face Wolf Point Friday and fought through a tight match five-set match but lost 26-28, 26-24, 15-25, 25-23, 11-15. "They seriously battled against Wolf Point on Friday," said Coach Martin. "The stats really show it with the amount of kills and digs."

The Scotties racked up 116 digs, nine aces, 34 assists, 39 kills and 15 blocks. The Wolves notched 132 digs, five aces, 40 assists, 44 kills and 10 blocks. Hunter and Ella Eggebrecht led Glasgow in digs with 22 each. Green, Hunter and Page each had two aces for the Scotties. Martin had 32 assists while Tatum Nyquist led in kills with 15. Green knocked down eight Wolf Point shots.

"I was proud of so many things this year. I was proud of the fight they put up against both teams. I feel bad for them that we didn't get farther but with such a young team we learned some very valuable post-season lessons about leadership," Coach Martin said. "This was a huge growth season for us, every girl made massive improvements in multiple aspects of the game. We have a lot of things to look forward to."

The Scottie volleyball team loses only senior Tatum Nyquist and looks to return a full roster of experienced players next season.
