Ice Dawgs Open Season with Two Road Wins

The high school Ice Dawgs dominated in their first doubleheader of the 2023-24 season, bringing home two wins from Billings Nov. 4. Glasgow took game one by a score of 6-2 and owned the second game 8-1.

The Ice Dawgs took a 2-0 lead in the first period of game one on power play goals from Zevin Kummerfeldt, assist Peyton Smith, and Reilly Llewellyn, assist Bode Barnett. Trevin Derbus evened the score in the second period, scoring once on a power play with Glasgow's Mason Hunter in the box for hooking.

Bode Barnett put Glasgow up in the third, getting the go-ahead goal and the insurance goal, assist Brody Hansen, at even strength. He netted the natural hat trick on a short-handed goal minutes later with an assist from Tatum Hansen. Eli Howland made it 6-2 on a power play and an assist from B. Hansen.

Glasgow outshot Billings 56-19 and went 3-for-4 on the power play while Billings converted on 1-of-8 man advantages. Jacob Potter turned away 17 of 19 shots on his net for a .895 save percentage.

The Ice Dawgs racked up 24 minutes on their eight penalties while Billings had eight minutes on their four infractions. Smith, tripping; Smith, interference; Hunter, hooking; Hunter, tripping; Hunter, roughing; Lex Fairclough, elbowing, and Zevin Kummerfeldt, head contact - game misconduct, served time in Glasgow's sin bin.

The Dawgs struck first again in game two, lighting up the scoreboard on a goal from B. Hansen 2:03 into play. Seth Nedens evened the score for Billings but Barnett, assist Hunter, put Glasgow up again with Smith in the box for interference. Hunter netted the insurance goal two minutes later with an assist from T. Hansen.

Glasgow found the back of the net four times in the second period. Hunter scored first, followed by Aiden Price, assist Howland. Tavin Boland converted on a power play with help from B. Hansen and Barnett closed out the period's scoring. Barnett also added the final goal of the game in the third period.

The Dawgs outshot Billings 56-24 and went 1-for-1 on the man advantage while shutting down all 10 of Billings' power plays. Potter stopped 23 shots between the pipes for a .958 save percentage.

Glasgow had 28 penalty minutes on 10 infractions while Billings held their penalties to two with four minutes in the box. Smith, interference; Fairclough, checking from behind and game misconduct; Hunter, interference; Barnett, tripping; Smith, elbowing; Dillon Hughes, roughing; Hunter, interference; Boland, high sticking, and Kummerfeldt, unsportsmanlike conduct, all drew whistles from the officials.

The Ice Dawgs return to the ice Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18 and 19, when they host Bozeman Red. The teams face off at 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. The Peewee Ice Dawgs will also play Bozeman those days with games at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 and 9 a.m. Nov. 19.

The Bantam Ice Dawgs will play the Sidney Tournament this weekend, Thursday through Friday, Nov. 10-12.
