Scottie Volleyball Closes Regular Season

Holds 7-3, 9-6 Overall Record Going Into District Tourney

Glasgow's volleyball team finished out their regular season last week, splitting a pair of conference games. The Scotties handed Wolf Point their first loss of the season in a three-set sweep 25-13, 27-25, 25-21, Oct. 19 in Glasgow before falling in four, 25-21, 19-25, 18-25, 23-25 on the road in Fairview the following day.

The Scotties put up four aces, 38 kills, 31 assists, nine blocks and 54 digs to the Wolves' four aces, 19 kills, 13 assists, five blocks and 49 digs in Glasgow.

Joely Chappell notched all four of the team's aces while Tatum Nyquist had 13 kills. Hayden Green knocked down six Wolf Point shots. Macy Martin led in assists and digs with 28 and 16, respectively.

Both the C and JV teams won their matches as well. The C squad won in four 22-25, 25-21, 15-10 15-11 to close out their 2023 season. The JV turned in a sweep 25-19, 25-19, 15-11.

Against Fairview, the Scotties had six aces, 53 kills, 48 assists, seven blocks and 94 digs.

Gina Page and Nyquist each had two aces for Glasgow while Nyquist led in kills with 16. Martin racked up 42 assists and Green stopped five Warriors' scoring attempts. Chappell racked up 27 digs for Glasgow.

The JV team closed out their season with a three-set sweep, 25-11, 25-16, 15-12.

"The girls are playing incredibly well right now! Our passing has gotten so much more consistent so it makes it easier to set up our offense. Tatum has really come on the last couple of weeks but everyone else is also swinging great which makes the blockers really work. Macy is doing well distributing the ball so it's hard to know who to defend. Ella [Eggebrecht] has been very consistent passing from the back row," head coach Brooke Martin said.

She added, "Our loss to Fairview was tough but we made great progress from the last time we played them. We need to block a little better and swing more to beat them. We got a little off kilter during the middle 2 sets against them and quit swinging which set us back, but I think we learned a lot from that. But we still had a tremendous amount of kills and digs in that game, it was very hard fought!"

Glasgow hosts the District 2B Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 26-28. The Scotties enter the tournament as the number three seed and will face the Harlem Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Malta and Poplar start the tournament play at 6 p.m. All games will be broadcast on NFHS.

Coach Martin said, "Super excited heading into districts with the level the girls are playing at. We are peaking now, we just have to put together solid games like that all weekend long!"
