The Scottie cross country teams hit their penultimate meet of the regular season this past weekend, running the Sidney Invite Oct. 7. Glasgow's girls team placed third with 91 points and the boys earned fourth with 106 points.
"We held out a few athletes with some minor issues just to be safe. Overall we didn't have a tremendously good great day. We had some very good performances but also are inconsistent with our middle pack for the girls," head coach Tim Phillips explained. "We're down to just a couple weeks to put that all together."
Kyler Holinde led the Scottie boys with an eighth place finish at 18:01.2. Ted See ran a 19.01.7 for 15th place and Adam Mickelson took 21st at 19:24.8. James Seekins ran a 19:36.6 for 29th with Owen Thompson rounding out the boys varsity in 44th place at 21:00.00
See was just 7 seconds off his time from the Glasgow meet. Seekins and Thompson turned in their second best times of the season.
"The boys ran well, though we did have some give up a bit in the middle of the race," Phillips said. "But I also saw some real good effort in the middle from Ted and James."
Gage Larsen, Drew Simensen, Timothy Pearson and Tristin Silhan ran the boys JV race. Larsen took eighth at 21:33.5. Simensen and Pearson earned 13th and 14th at 22:43.7 and 22:43.8, respectively. Silhan ran a 25:37.5 for 17th place.
Phillips said, "Our times were so fast last week, it was tough to set personal bests in Sidney. There are some long hills and a lot of turns. I was happy with most of the times. A couple highlights: Tim Pearson set his personal best by a few seconds and Tristin set his best by 50 seconds."
Haleigh Huntsman led the Scottie girls at 21:28.1, taking eighth place. Kheyerah Bilger ran a 22:16.0 for 15th place. Caylen Jankowski took 23rd at 23:18.5 and Jensina Tweten ran a 23:30.5 for 25th place. Mayzie Yoakam was close behind in 27th at 23:43.9 followed directly by Riley Evenson-Glasoe in 28th place with a time of 23:53.1.
Kimber Dulaney won the girls JV competition at 23:10.7 and Mary Dykema earned 10th at 27:01.8.
"Harlem will be our last regular season meet. Our six and seven positions are still wide open for the girls. There are four girls very close to each other for those spots so I think it will be a very competitive day for them. And, looking at the team matchups at State, we'll need all seven to run well," Phillips said.
On the girls side, he highlighted Bilger for being only 8 seconds off her personal best from last week while Dulaney, Huntsman, Jankowski and Tweten all had their second best runs of the season.
The Scotties conclude their regular season this Friday, Oct. 13, at Harlem's Annual Cross Country Meet. The middle school girls will race at 10 a.m. at the Harlem Golf Course, followed by middle school boys, high school girls and high school boys.
