Bureau Of Land Management To Host Virtual Opportunity To Learn About Restoration Landscapes

The Bureau of Land Management Montana/Dakotas is giving the public an opportunity to learn about Montana’s restoration landscapes through a virtual town hall on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Mountain Time.

The BLM is slated to invest $26.9 million from the Inflation Reduction Act for ecological restoration and resiliency of critical wildlife habitats and watersheds on public lands in Montana. This funding will be focused in three restoration landscapes:

The Blackfoot-Clark Fork Restoration Landscape managed by the Missoula Field Office

The Hi-Line Sagebrush Anchor Restoration Landscape managed by the Malta and Glasgow Field Offices

The Missouri Headwaters Restoration Landscape managed by the Dillon Field Office

These landscapes are part of a nationwide effort to improve ecological function at a landscape scale, which is critical to the BLM’s ability to manage for multiple use and sustained yield. Additionally, BLM Montana/Dakotas has received over $8 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to do fuels and ecosystem restoration work.

The town hall is an opportunity to learn more about these once-in-a-lifetime investments into our public lands in Montana and an invitation to join us as we work in these landscapes over the next eight years. We will share our vision to collaborate with our partners to improve ecosystem function and secure ecological strongholds. With partners, these landscapes will provide clean water, quality habitat for fish and wildlife, opportunities for recreation, and improve resiliency to wildfire and drought. These restoration landscapes are also the hub of social and economic benefits for local communities within the watersheds and, as such, investments in the ecosystem restoration of these landscapes are investments into our local communities and economies.

Resilient public lands are critical to the BLM’s ability to manage for multiple use and sustained yield. Once-in-a-generation funding from the Inflation Reduction Act will be directed to landscapes where concentrated, strategic investment through partnership can make the most difference for communities and public resources under the BLM’s management.
