Scottie XC Stays the Course

Host Scottie Invite at Fort Peck Saturday

Frazer Invitational

Since we were working on training thru this and using it more as a workout session, I thought it was a pretty good day.

We were hoping to run a bit as a pack in Frazer but the start was so congested, the girls broke apart pretty early. I thought for the most part we ran pretty well; Kheyerah Bilger had a personal best and ran 3:40 better than last year in Frazer.

Caylen [Jankowski] had a season best by 1:24 and was 33 seconds better than last year.

Kimber [Dulaney] ran a season best by 1:01 - so she's starting to get in shape after that long-lasting hamstring injury. Haleigh [Huntsman] wasn't far off her p.r. and ran really well; and Tanae [Baker] continues to look really strong.

The boys packed together pretty well, and I thought they did a good job helping each other through the wind. Rowen [Kloker] probably had the best day, seeing a p.r. by 10 seconds. Adam [Mickelson] ran over a minute faster than at Frazer last year, and James [Seekins] continues to impress at 2:25 faster than last year.

Kyler Holinde 18:25.1 (.6 sec faster than last year)

Ted See 19:49.2 (28 sec faster than last year)

Kyler Whitman 19:56.4 (53 sec faster than last year)

Adam Mickelson 20:16.0 (1:01 faster than last year)

James Seekins 20:22.7 (2:25 better than last year)

Rowen Kloker 20:47.7 (P.R. by 10 sec)

Owen Thompson 21:55.6 (42 sec faster than last year)

I thought the girls ran really well, especially with most having just run at Frazer on Thursday. Tanae could have been faster had she been pushed, but ran alone for over 2 miles. Emily ran a little conservatively with her ankle issue, but still ran a great time!

Haleigh and Kheyerah were within a couple seconds of their personal bests; Kheyerah was a minute faster than she was there last year. Riley had a season best by about 23 seconds, and 31 seconds faster than last year. Caylen and Mary [Dykema] ran their season best as well, and Jensina had another personal best.

But the big breakout for the girls was from Kimber: she won the JV race, and cut 2:08 off her season best time, and actually was only a little over a minute from her personal best last year. I think the hamstring issues are behind us and she's just gonna get a LOT better!

Josie [Kemp] fought a hip issue, and Mayzie [Yoakam] is still just getting into shape: I'd say she's only about in week 2 shape between the tonsil surgery and the really brutal cold she's had. So I look for her to breakout big here in about 2 weeks.

We just need that pack of girls to move up a bit if we want to compete for a trophy at state - the west is getting faster too, so it sure will be interesting!

For the boys, Kyler Holinde led us as usual - it was nice to see him in the top ten, and not far off his personal best. The group of boys behind him packed so well that I even missed Adam going by near the finish! He, Ted and Kyler were all within 3 seconds of each other! Adam had a 37 second p.r. and Kyler set a personal best, running nearly 2 minutes faster than the Miles City meet last year.

James is still recovering a bit from the ankle injury but still was only 20 seconds behind that pack. Rowen had another personal best (by 30 seconds) and Owen had a p.r., running 97 seconds faster than last year.

Both Gage and Tristin had their personal best times in the j.v. race; I have a feeling Tim will hit one next week.

The boys ran much better as a team in Miles City than they did in Frazer, so I'm looking for them to keep moving up as a squad.

Oh, and kudos to the middle school program as Coach Larson really has them running extremely well. I think they had 17 personal bests out of the 21 runners that competed on Saturday!

Our meet is this Saturday at the downstream campground at Kiwanis Park. Races start at ten and we'd love everyone to come out and support both the high school and junior high teams as they have really been putting in some hard work!
