Defeat Chinook in Volleyball Home Opener
Glasgow's volleyball team won their home opener Aug. 31, downing the Chinook Sugarbeeters 25-18,18-25, 20-25, 27-25, 15-13. The Scotties traveled to Chinook for their Invite Sept. 2 where they put up a 2-4 record and claimed second place in the silver bracket.
Glasgow came from down 1-3 sets to take their win over Chinook in front of an enthused home crowd even though Chinook padded the stats sheet more. The Sugarbeeters had 18 aces to Glasgow's eight, 46 kills to the Scotties' 23, 38 assists while Glasgow had 20 and 11 blocks to the home team's eight. Glasgow had 91 digs to Chinook's 68.
Macy Martin, Joely Chappell and Halle Hunter led Glasgow in aces with two each. Chappell put up eight of the team's 23 kills. Martin racked up 17 assists and Hayden Green stopped five Chinook shots. Tatum Nyquist and Chappell each put 22 digs on the stats sheet.
The Scottie C squad fell to Chinook 6-25, 14-25, 7-15 while the JV team lost in five sets: 25-19, 12-25, 13-15, 15-11, 12-15.
Glasgow opened the Chinook Invite facing the host team in pool play. The Scotties dropped the first round 11-25. They returned to the court to take a decisive 25-4 victory over Valier but dropped a tight game to Cut Bank 24-26 next. The Scotties faced Roy/Winifred in the final game of pool play, losing 11-25.
They moved into the silver bracket of tourney play and faced the Malta M-ettes. The Scotties won 25-15, 25-20. The win advanced them into a match against Highwood where Glasgow lost 20-25, 21-25.
The Glasgow JV team traveled to Lustre the same day to take on the Lions. The Scotties lost in three 18-25, 14-25, 11-25.
Glasgow travels to Malta Thursday, Sept. 7 for action against the M-ettes beginning at 4:30 p.m. with C squad, JV and varsity games. The Scotties host the Harlem Wildcats Saturday, Sept. 9, with C teams hitting the court at 1 p.m. followed by JV and varsity play.
