Baker Leads Scottie Girls at Flathead Invite

Girls take Ninth Place, Boys 19th

“We went to Kalispell to get some experience on the state meet course,” said cross country head coach Tim Phillips, “so that was invaluable experience!” The varsity girls team placed sixth with 291 team points and an average time of 22:09.72. The Scottie varsity boys took 19th place with 634 points and a 19:30.38 average time Sept. 1.

“The big story was Tanae [Baker]. She cut a minute off the previous week’s time, and competed extremely well! She’s starting to get to that elite level that we know she is capable of establishing,” Phillips said. Baker placed second out of 149 runners in the girls race with a time of 18:59.84. She scored 2 points for Glasgow.

Emily See ran the course in 20:02.65 for 11th place and 11 team points. Haleigh Huntsman scored 60 points with a 60th place finish and a time of 22:34.12. Kheyerah Bilger ran a 23:28.90 for 89th place and 89 points. Baker, See, Huntsman and Bilger all dropped time from their first week’s race to establish season records.

Jensina Tweten set a personal record of 25:43.10 and scored 129 points with her 129th place finish. Caylen Jankowski also set a season record. She ran a 26:18.81 for 132nd place.

Phillips said, “Emily ran a gutty race on that sore ankle, and Jensina keeps improving – very happy with her performance!”

Kyler Holinde led the boys team with a 65th place finish out of 198 racers. His season record time of 17:57.6 earned the Scottie boys 65 points. KJ Ingram finished in 136th place at 19:45.53. Kyler Whitman scored 142 points in 142nd place with a time of 19:50.66 while James Seekins ran a 19:56.47, a personal record, for 144th place and 144 points. Ted See put up 147 points with a 147th place finish at 20:01.63.

Adam Mickelson ran a 20:31.22 for 154th place and Rowen Kloker took 176th place at 21:33.66. T. See, Mickelson and Kloker all established season records.

“For the boys, Kyler Holinde had a solid race and I know he’s got much more in the tank as he gets in shape a little more,” Phillips said. “Rowen Kloker ran really well for a freshman in the varsity race. James is climbing to the next level of competitiveness, and KJ overcame some tough stomach issues and still competed pretty well.”

The Scottie JV team competed in Poplar Sept. 2.

Riley Evenson-Glasoe ran for the JV girls, finishing in 18th place out of 48 competitors. She set a season record at 26:27.87. Phillips said, “In Poplar on Saturday, we held Josie [Kemp] out as she continues to rehab from knee surgery this spring. Riley ran a MUCH better race this week and really competed!”

The JV boys placed sixth with 120 team points out of 55 runners. Owen Thompson led the squad with a personal record time of 21:20.18 and a 19th place finish. Timothy Pearson also set a personal record, 22:46.50, and finished in 32nd place. Jordan Cook took 39th place with a season record 23:32.58.

Gage Larsen took 47th place with a time of 25:04.01. Drew Simensen finished right behind Larsen with a time of 25:27.71. Tristin Silhan set a personal record with his 28:35.73 time and finished in 54th place.

The boys varsity and JV race will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the girls varsity and JV run at 10:45 a.m. The Middle School races will follow with the boys at 11:30 a.m. and the girls at noon.
