Law Enforcement Report

For the week of Aug. 21 to 27 there were 17 motor vehicle stops, five reports of loose dogs and four reports of loose livestock.

Thursday, Aug. 17

2030 – A deputy reported a broken down vehicle on US 2 about three miles east of Hinsdale. They are working on it now and he is unable to stop as he is transporting a passenger. MHP advised that he would patrol the area.

Friday, Aug. 18

0008 – Caller reported there was a man waiting at the train depot last night and tonight. The man is asking for a ride to the next bus depot. The male is outside now while screaming and talking to himself.

1111 – Caller reported a gas drive off and provided a description of the vehicle. The vehicle owner was contacted, his card did not go through. He asked if he could drop by tomorrow to pay the bill.

1518 – Caller reported a grass fire. The fire was contained around 1700. One vehicle was destroyed in the fire. It was a total loss, both the plates and the VIN tag were melted.

1727 – Caller said that there was someone stuck in the underpass. Multiple calls were received about the situation.

1947 – Caller reported a man on a bike circling the parking lot looking into cars. She and her co-worker went out to their vehicles. When they got in, the man circled their vehicles before making one more lap around the parking lot. They also stated that it looked like the man was bleeding from one of his ears. GPD ran a patrol of the area.

0826 – Caller stated that when he was out combining he spotted a vehicle in the ditch with blood on the door. He offered a description of the vehicle and the plate numbers. A deputy patrolled the area and couldn’t find the vehicle. Another call came in at 1239 about the same vehicle. The caller gave a more specific location. A deputy came out and found the vehicle. They talked to the current owner and everything seemed fine.

1018 – Caller reported that he rolled his vehicle. He has no phone service, so he went to the nearest home to use a phone. MHP handled the situation.

1636 – Caller reported that there was a woman who approached her residence at a high rate of speed. She pulled up to the residence and yelled something at the caller. The woman sped off. She doesn’t want anything to do with the woman, stating that she is “crazy.”

2104 – Caller reported a truck pulling a boat with no lights on the trailer. The area they currently are in has a high volume of traffic, mainly larger vehicles.

Monday, Aug. 21

1013 – Officer advised a vehicle is marked to be towed and abandoned.

1036 – Caller advised that they are removing the speed bumps on 3rd St. South. They hope to be done by 1200.

1258 – Caller reported a gas drive off. He gave a description of the vehicle and its license plate number.

1532 – Reporting party states she is following a car with a spare tire on the back. The vehicle is swerving to the white line then back to the yellow. She is unsure if they are texting, on the phone, or elderly. Caller also stated they are traveling at a higher rate of speed.

2153 – Caller reported that he had hit three cows, two were dead and another was limping off the highway. There were no injuries as a result of the accident. The vehicle was unable to move and would not turn off.

Tuesday, Aug. 22

0752 – Reporting party called in requesting an officer for a male subject laying on the ground on the westside of the building. He stated the subject is dressed in dress clothes. At 0810, a second person called to state there is a male sleeping on the sidewalk. They were advised dispatch is aware and an officer has already been there to check it out.

0812 – NorVal called in to request some traffic control at the listed location. A line went down when a helicopter ran into it.

0851 – Caller reported that someone had found a counterfeit $100 bill outside of a bar the night before. The caller wants an officer to come pick it up.

0934 – Caller reported that there is someone driving around the storage sheds in his neighborhood. Though he hasn’t seen the vehicle he said that it was really loud and was flinging mud on the buildings. The caller stated that the person has driven by at least three times and is unsure if the mud flinging is malicious or the driver is out having fun.

1721 – Caller requested a city officer in the area due to a reckless driver. The caller gave a description of the vehicle and stated that they were speeding around in an area where kids are playing. Caller is willing to sign a complaint.

1950 – Caller reported that there was a water break at the listed location. He stated that his neighbor told him that they called someone. The water department was informed of the call.

2350 – Caller reported hearing gunshots. He described the shots as sounding from a .38 or .45 caliber fire arm and coming from across the street from him. Deputy advised they are unable to locate at this time but are going to continue patrolling for awhile.

Wednesday, Aug. 23

0932 – Reporting party called in stating one of his trucks caught the power line and drug it down to the ground. There is also another line that is about 10’ off the ground. The pole is also leaning. NWE was contacted and let them know of the location.

1052 – Reporting party called stating there is a loaded gravel truck/trailer that just passed a very long hay truck loaded with round bales. She does want an officer to find the gravel truck but does not want to sign a complaint. A deputy advised later he found the driver and the driver didn’t think they were going too fast and didn’t think he got as close to hitting them as he did. He told the deputy he would be more careful in the future.

1323 – BNSF RR PD called to report that about ½ mile west of their location a train crew observed two males get out of their truck, walk up to their switch for the RR. BNSF stated as far as they can tell they didn’t do anything to it, as it all appears to be working but they would like an officer to go out there and check the area. A plate number for the truck was also provided. At 1435, a deputy advised he didn’t observe anything vandalized.

1450 – Caller stated that he lives in Helena but owns a farm out in Richland. His neighbor called him stating that there was a break in at his farmhouse. He asked if his neighbor checked it out and they told him no because they were scared to enter. A Deputy checked out the property and saw signs of forced entry as well as rummaging. The caller would have to be present to report any missing property.

1511 – Reporting party called stating he just caught a Fish and Game officer out on his property again. He stated he has told them to stay off his property but for five years now they keep coming onto his property trespassing. Today he got the officer stopped and took the keys out of the vehicle. He stated the officer then had another set and started the vehicle and tore off. The caller stated when he was able to get the Fish and Game officer stopped initially they were on the Right of Way but before that he was definitely on his property and had no business being there. The reporting party states he wants an officer to do something with them to keep them off his property. At 1541, deputy advised it was not a Fish and Game officer, it was the BLM coordinator who was out there putting up signs for Block Management as his neighbor is participating in this program.

1651 – Caller reported that an intoxicated man fell off the west sidewalk onto the road in the underpass. She almost hit the man and provided a description of him.

2002 – Caller reported that an employee hit the bridge by the Park Grove Bar. The vehicle hit the railing and was totaled. There were no injuries.

2250 – Caller reported that there was a cement truck with its lights on. A call was made to the company of the truck. Dispatch was able to get in contact with a male.

Thursday Aug. 24

0913 – Opheim FD reported that there was a field fire about four miles north of Opheim. The fire was out by 1000.

0946 – A disabled motor vehicle call was recorded. It was advised a pick up was stalled out. Deputy will try and get the person to a safer place. At 0948, the vehicle was moved.

1019 – Reporting party called in stating someone last night ran over his corner post. The license plate of the vehicle is laying out there. The registered owner was located and warnings were issued.

1136 – A theft was investigated but no information was provided. Officer advised they don't have a clear view of the license plate for a vehicle but did get a camper plate. The camper plate was ran however there was no record found. They will continue to try to get a clear view of the plate of the vehicle and then call the officer back.

1203 – Caller wanted to report two cat incidents. She stated that the cats she is reporting belong to her neighbor. The cat is extremely aggressive and attacked her cat. The cat also got into her basement and pooped all over. She had to take her cat to the vet and has several hundred dollars in vet bills due to the situation. She wants something done about her neighbor’s cat.

1828 – Caller reported there’s two guys near the underpass and one is urinating on the grass. Dispatch asked the caller if she could stay on the line while an officer is dispatched so a description could be passed along. However the caller hung up.

2112 – Caller reported that he hit a deer on the west side of Frazer. There are no injuries and the vehicle is still driveable but out of the driving lane. They heard the deer make a huff sound so not sure if it’s still alive. Caller was patched up with a deputy who requested Helena Highway Patrol be contacted.

Friday Aug. 25

0941 – Caller stated that her parents are speeding into Glasgow. They have an emergency, their dog was bitten by a rattlesnake and they were needing immediate care from a veterinarian. The caller was advised that they should turn on their flashers and try to do the speed limit. Officers were informed of this call.

1120 – Caller reported a minor fender bender in the parking lot. No injuries were reported.

1150 – Caller reported someone just came over to her house and busted her window out when she wouldn’t let him in the house. She stated who the male is and he just left, heading back to his residence. She stated he shattered the window when she told him to get away from the house. She also stated he was at the residence trying to get movies back from her.

1155 – Caller advised that she has an agreement with her landlord that she would have all of her stuff out of her apartment by 1700 today. She said that the landlord has been texting her all week to get the keys to him by the deadline. She said that her and her son arrived today to finish up and found all of her items out on the lawn. A deputy was notified. The deputy advised that the landlord wasn’t there but was reachable by the phone. He stated that he understands that they have until 1700 to get out and that they only had a few things. He also requested that the deputy should take the key and card and put it in his door, which the deputy did.

1241 – Caller requested an officer at her residence as someone broke into her house and stole something from her. She said she thinks it happened in the last two to three days as she was visiting her neighbor and when she came back she had trouble getting into the door, like someone messed with it. An officer was notified.

1338 – A 911 call was received however dispatch couldn’t understand the person. Dispatch disconnected and called back, speaking to a female who stated there is a gold wing on the side of the road and a person laying there. She thinks she saw blood everyone. The connection was lost again before further information was obtained. At 1346, deputy advised he patrolled to the County line and was unable to locate anyone laying on the side of the road. At 1349, the female called back and was notified the officer drove to the County line and was not able to find anyone or any motorcycle out there. She was very convinced about it and she also provided a further description of the motorcycle. At 1354, deputy advised he was still unable to locate.

1601 – Reporting party stated Fed-Ex delivered a couple of packages to his residence yesterday at 1345 and he stated someone stole the packages. He already reported to Fed-Ex.

Saturday Aug. 26

1243 – Reporting party called in stating he loaned his truck to a female who needed to go to St. Marie yesterday. Last night she contacted him and said she was in Wolf Point, she had to take her niece there and was fueling up then would be back. She has not been in contact since. A description of the vehicle was provided as well as plate number. At 1301, officer advised he spoke with the reporting party and also requested that Roosevelt and MHP be notified. The vehicle was entered as stolen. At 1610, the reporting party called in and stated the individual has contacted him and she is leaving Wolf Point, headed back to bring the vehicle back to him. He is dropping the stolen vehicle listing at this time. If there is damage to the vehicle upon return, he will address it at that time.

1315 – Caller is traveling through after purchasing a vehicle from North Dakota. They didn’t get a temporary sticker and did not get insurance changed over right away. They will be parking the vehicle at the Valley Event Center until they can get back on Monday.

1942 – Caller reported a random vehicle has been left at her residence. She stated her husband notified her about it earlier today. The two people with the vehicle asked the husband why he was there and he told them it was because that is where he lives. It was told the vehicle needs a new radiator hose. They just left the car and never came back for it. The temp tag and VIN was provided. Deputy advised they are going to wait until Monday to see if the owner comes back, if not they will have it towed.

2104 – A public assist call was recorded. An officer let the driver know he has a headlight out.

2208 – Reporting party stated a truck was driving erratically. It flew out, went up on the hill. Then just stopped in the road, took off and pulled over. The reporting party passed it then the suspect vehicle took off and passed him again. A deputy will keep an eye out for it. The officer also patrolled the south side Hwy 42 to Highway 24, but did not spot the vehicle.

For the week of Aug. 28 through Sept. 3, there were 28 motor vehicle stops, 10 reports of loose livestock and one report of a VIN inspection request.

Monday, Aug. 28

1745 – Caller reported that a girl walked into the store then walked back out where she slashed his bike tires. He stated he knows the girl and provided a description. He also stated she is outside as if she is waiting for him.

1800 – Caller reported a pickup that was racing through town and cut someone off at an intersection. Then they whipped into a business. He is willing to sign a complaint.

2132 – A public assist call was recorded. Deputy advised the driver’s car stalled. Twenty minutes later it was reported the vehicle is no longer on the road and no longer a hazard.

Tuesday, Aug. 29

0430 – Reporting party stated a truck is sitting on the side of the road and provided a description of location. She stated no one is inside the vehicle. A deputy was notified who advised as long as the vehicle is not a hazard, there is no need to check on it. He further advised if another call is received then he will go check it out.

1108 – RCSO requested Valley County Search and Rescue with the airboat to assist with an incident in Roosevelt County.

1247 – Caller wanted to know what could be done about a van that is parked behind a house on the property of a business. She states the van has been parked there last Thursday and they are visiting a resident. The caller said they told the individual they could not park there and needed to move but the vehicle still hasn’t been moved. It is also believed the person has been staying in the van. Officer advised it was private property, they could have the vehicle towed at their expense.

1354 – Reporting party called in stating they were told of a male who was at their apartments and checking their doors Now there are two of them and a description was provided.

1526 – PCSO dispatch called stating they just got a call from a female who is out baling hay on the east side of Saco. She saw a truck pulling a camper going east bound and something is dragging and sending sparks everywhere. At 1559, deputy stopped the vehicle and advised he has sent them on their way. They got the mud flap fixed so it is not dragging anymore.

1729 – Caller reported a fire in the Stubble field. He is going to work on getting it put out but would like a truck to respond. Nashua Fire was notified and fire chef requested LRFD also be paged.

1827 – Phillips County said they received a report of a big round hay bale in the middle of the Milk River Bridge in Hinsdale. At 1831, a second person called to report the same and stated the westbound lane is blocked. MT DOT was notified.

Wednesday, Aug. 30

0824 – A 911 call was received from an individual who stated he has just been in an accident. He couldn’t see a mile marker. He stated further he was trying to pass a vehicle, they didn’t see him doing this and swerved into him. There are no injuries and a description of both vehicles were provided.

1851 – Caller said she was trying to put money into the ATM at a bank and it froze up. The machine is blinking.

2030 – Reporting party called to state there is a dust storm and zero visibility east of MM 530. She pulled off the road and parked. She has her flashers on and she is out of the driving lane. She stated there is another vehicle that was behind her also pulled off the road.

2024 – Reporting party said they received a report that there’s a fight on the top floor of the hotel. They don’t have a room number or anymore information at this time. Deputy was asked at officer’s request if he can assist. At 2028, officer requested dispatch let deputy know he can stand down.

2148 – Reporting party called stating he has run out of gas. His wife is with him. He would like to know if there is someone who can help. At 2151, deputy advised he called the reporting party and it turns out they have AAA. At 2217, deputy advised the reporting party called back and asked if someone local could help because he was unable to contact AAA. At 2308, it was advised a gallon of gas was placed into the car and the deputy is going to follow them to Hinsdale.

2334 – Dispatch received a priority hang up 911 call. The number was called back and reached the reporting party. She stated her husband threw her stuff all over her room and woke up her grandkids then took off in her truck. A description of the truck was provided and she wants it back. At 2354, deputy advised the pickup is at the scene and the husband is in the garage. It was determined the couple were having a verbal argument and the parties are going to separate for the evening.

Thursday, Aug. 31

0109 – Reporting party said she was leaving the Depot when she saw a man laying on the ground. A description of location and what he was wearing was provided. At 0119, officer advised the man was sleeping and woke up. He is now heading home.

0545 – Reporting party stated a female is in her front yard screaming and yelling about $400 and threatening to break her and her neighbor’s windows out. She has a no contact order signed by the judge. The caller also stated the suspect came into her house and brought some clothes in, but the caller tricked her into going outside and she locked the door. RCSO was contacted. At 0636, it was confirmed a restraining order existed between the two women but the suspect is no longer there.

0740 – Reporting party called stating a female is at his house again ranting about hurting her grandmother. Dispatch asked him if she was really going to go hurt her, and he stated right now she is just ranting but wants an officer there. RCSO dispatch was contacted and provided the information. It was also stated the grandmother has a restraining order against the granddaughter which was confirmed by the Tribal officer earlier this morning but when they got out there she was gone. Deputy was also contacted and provided an update on the situation.

1040 – Reporting party called stating she had to bring her husband to the hospital this morning. When she was parking her truck she cut the corner too close and the horse trailer caught a smaller vehicle. She did leave a note for the owner but wanted dispatch to know. She is currently in the ER with her husband but hospital staff will know where she is at if the officer can’t find her.

1134 – Reporting party called to report someone backed into her vehicle.

1235 – Reporting party came into the dispatch lobby to report a theft. He states a male stole a bunk of rebar. The male also did not do the job the reporting party paid him to do which he paid $50,000. The male is a contractor for a construction company.

1634 – Deputy advised to start a card for theft. He has the reporting party down in his office now taking her report.

Friday Sept. 1

0412 – RCSO reporting a possible fire southwest of Frazer. Tribal Security saw it and they are heading out to see if they can find it. At 0457, McCone County was contacted and they thought it was a hay stack but weren’t entirely sure. The location later determined and the situation was taken care of.

0644 – Reporting party stated they heard gunshots or fireworks. It has been going on for awhile and there are shots, then it stops for a few minutes.

1058 – A male came in stating someone has added four devices to his Verizon account.

1235 – Reporting party called stating an RV is stuck in the underpass. An officer later advised the vheicle is gone.

1908 – Caller requested to speak with a city officer. Dispatch asked caller where the emergency was and he stated Wolf Point. Call was transferred to Roosevelt County.

2141 – Caller reported the janitor on duty told her that two adult women are there digging through the garbage cans. The caller provided the reporting party’s phone number which dispatch called. The janitor was able to provide a description of the two individuals. At 2213, deputy reported not seeing anyone around the dumpster. He did talk to the janitor, and the individuals had left before he got there.

2212 – Caller reported there was a vehicle that was speeding on the listed location.

Saturday, Sept. 2

0913 – Caller reported someone has damaged their building. The building was fine this morning at 0730, so unsure when this happened or who did it. They are looking for the video now. The identification of the suspect was determined. There was no plate but the workers recognize the truck and trailer.

1027 – Officer advised he has a debit card and one dollar cash that was turned into him. He will attempt to contact the owner of the card and get her property returned to her. At 1033, officer advised he has returned the property to the owner.

1128 – There is a dead deer in the east bound lane on US Highway 2. The caller reported she almost hit it when pulling onto the highway. Deputy was provided the information.

1136 – Driver reported a deer ran into them. The reporting party stated he is pulling an RV with his truck. The truck is still driveable and they made it another mile to someone’s road because they couldn’t find a place to pull off. The door is bent where the deer hit and the handle is broke. They have their flashers on.

1211 – Caller reported there was an incident taking place. She stated she identified a cat as hers that was posted on Facebook however when the reporting party called she said the woman was refusing to give her the cat back. When the incident began to occur because they would not get the cat back, they threatened her with calling the cops. At the end of the call, she said it was okay because they changed their mind and decided to give the cat back.

2020 – Caller reported her daughter is at her residence and is not welcome. She also stated her son called to let her know that the daughter was there.

2345 – A building check call was reported. Per deputy, they were unable to locate anyone in the houses.

Sunday, Sept. 3

0559 – Reporting party stated they hit a deer. It is not moving and in the middle of the road. They asked if they should move it and was told only if they feel safely do it and if they are comfortable with it. There are no injuries and the car is driveable. There was damage to the headlight.
