Reds Season Ends at District Tourney

The Glasgow Reds baseball team ended their 2023 season in Miles City at the District Tournament after posting an 0-2 record over the long weekend. Glasgow opened with a game against the Miles City Mavericks July 20. The 11-1 loss bumped the team to the back side of the bracket to face the Laurel Dodgers July 22 in loser-out action. The Reds fell by the same margin – 11-1 – in the season-ending loss.

The Reds fell behind the Mavericks in their opening game when the host team scored six run sin the second inning. Glasgow scored only once in the game. JT Sprague hit s double fly ball to right field sending Juliun Benson across home plate in the top of the third.

Miles City answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, added another in the fourth and three in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Glasgow was outhit 11-2 in the game and committed five errors to the Mavericks' two. Sprague had both hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate, as well as the only RBI for Glasgow. Brody Hansen had a stolen base.

Michael Hunter started the game on the mound for the Reds, going one and one-third innings. He allowed four runs and two hits with one strikeout. Cash Stulc closed out the game, allowing seven runs and10 hits with one strikeout.

The Reds hit the field against the Laurel Dodgers Saturday morning but were felled by another 6-run second inning showing by their opponents. Laurel went up 1-0 after one, sealed the win in the second, increased their lead to 10-1 in the third and scored once more in the fourth.

Glasgow scored once in the top of the fifth before the game ended early. Sprague again sent Benson home, this time with a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Reds had two hits in the game to the Dodgers 10, and committed three errors while Laurel held theirs to two.

Sprague, Beau Malnaa and Benson each had a hit for Glasgow with Sprague notching the only RBI. Benson added a stolen base to the stats sheet.

Rance Rhoads took the loss on the mound, throwing 76 pitches over four innings. He allowed 11 runs on 13 hits while throwing two strikeouts.

Jordan Plummer and Rhoads were both named to the Eastern A District All-Conference team.

Rhoads earned recognition as a member of the American Legion Baseball Class A All-State Team.
