Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Eugene R. "Pete" Nicol, 94, of Nashua Mont., passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, surrounded by family.
A private family burial will be held Saturday, July 22.
Pete was born on May 18, 1929, in Nashua. He spent the first six years of his life on the farm located on the Milk River Coulee along the Missouri River. In 1935, due to the construction of the Fort Peck Dam, the family relocated to the farm just southeast of Nashua. He grew up working the farm until being drafted into the Army.
After returning from the Army, he met and married Idell Kappes on July 17, 1954. He and his brother Dick took over the family farm. After Dick decided farming wasn't his lifelong calling, he sold his stake in the farm to Pete. Pete and Idell worked the farm until retiring in 2004 at which time they moved into the town of Nashua.
In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking which included building barn wood picture frames and wooden boxes. Pete enjoyed attending rodeos, watching PBR bull riding on TV, taking mini vacations with Idell, dancing, flying his drone, feeding the birds and taking care of his beloved pets.
Pete is preceded in death by his wife, Idell; his parents; his brothers, Earl and Dick; his sister Mary Ann; and son-in-law Mike Edwards.
Survivors include three children, Deborah Cusker (JR), Rusty Nicol (Thelma), and Carrie Nicol; grandchildren Danielle Cusker, Earl Cusker (Mikki), Kaitlin Tweten (Kevin), Logan Nicol (Cassandra Millan); great-grandson Gage Cusker (Hailey); great-granddaughter Saige Tweten; and great-great-granddaughter Evelina Cusker; brothers Swede Nicol and Jim Nicol (Kathy); sisters Phyllis Cash and Sue Jensen; and many nieces and nephews.
