Sheriff's Office Responds To Fort Peck Drowning

Benefit Account Set Up For Family

On July 6, at 8:40 a.m., the Valley County Sheriff’s Office responded to the cabin area of Fort Peck Lake for an unresponsive two-year old, later identified as Cullen Meland, found in the water.

Meland, son of Braden and Bethany Meland, of Billings, was staying with relatives in the area when the accident occurred. The Office of the Sheriff/Coroner will conduct a cause and manner of death investigation, which as of press time was still ongoing.

In addition to Cullen, Braden and Bethany are parents to a newborn daughter, Macie, who is currently in the Denver, Colo., neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and is expected to need long-term care.
