The Glasgow Reds came within a run of each game against the Richland Patriots June 22 but posted two road losses by scores of 10-9 and 11-10. Glasgow rallied late in their first game against Richland to come close to the win with five runs in the sixth and two in the seventh while the Patriots put up a nine-run showing in the bottom of the seventh in game two for the win.
The Reds trailed 1-0 at the end of the first inning after going three-up, three-down in their first at bat. Richland added two runs to the scoreboard after shutting out the Reds again in the second. The Reds found their bats in the third with one run when Juliun Benson hit a double to send Dylan Plummer home. The Patriots increased their lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the inning.
Glasgow scored again in the top of the fourth when Beau Malnaa rounded home on an Aiden Price pop fly to right field and once in the fifth when Benson scored on a Tatum Hansen ground ball.
The Reds sent five runners across the plate in the sixth to briefly take the lead in the top of the sixth. A double by Benson sent Jordan Plummer and Price home before Benson scored on a Ranch Rhoads double line drive to center field. Rhoads crossed the plate on the next batter when Hansen doubled on a ground ball to left field.
The Patriots regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with four runs while Glasgow added two runs to their score in the top of the seventh, falling short of the win. J. Plummer scored on a passed ball with Jack Kolstad at bat and Michael Hunter scored after tagging up on a Benson fly out to right field.
Glasgow was outhit in game one, 10-9, while committing five errors. Benson led the Reds, going 3-for-5 at bat with four RBIs. Hansen was 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI while Rhoads went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Malnaa, J. Plummer and Price connected once each at bat with Price notching one RBI. Benson and Hansen both had one stole base.
Hunter started the game on the mound for the Reds, lasting three innings. He allowed five runs and five hits while striking out four. Price relieved him for two innings, giving up two runs and two hits. Rhoads took the loss for the Reds in his two-thirds of an inning pitching. He allowed four runs and three hits while throwing one strikeout. Brody Hansen closed out the game on the mound with no hits or runs in one-third of an inning.
Glasgow returned to the field for a stronger start in game two, leading 2-1 at the end of the first and keeping Richland off the scoreboard again until the final inning.
Malnaa started the scoring action on a passed ball with Hunter at bat while Rhoads scored when Hunter grounded out. Kolstad made it 3-1 in the second when he scored on an error by the Patriots' catcher. The Reds sent the Patriots back to the field after a three-up, three-down showing by the hosts in the bottom of the second. Glasgow padded their lead with three runs in the top of the third. Rhoads scored on an error with Hunter at the plate before J. Plummer singled to send Hansen and Hunter home.
The scoreboard remained unchanged until the top of the sixth after the Reds ended the Patriots at-bat with a double play by Kolstad, Benson and Rhoads. Hansen, with two out and two on base, drilled an inside-the-park home run to sent JT Sprague and Rhoads home as well.
Richland mounted their comeback in the bottom of the seventh with a nine-run showing to win on walk-off.
Glasgow was outhit 11-7 over the seven innings, led by Hansen who had three RBIs while going 2-for-3 at bat. Benson, Malnaa, Hunter, J. Plummer and JT Sprague each connected once at the plate. J. Plummer had two RBIs while Hunter added one to the stats sheet. Hunter and Kolstad both had one stolen base.
J. Plummer started the game on the mound for Glasgow, going six innings. He gave up four runs and six hits while striking out eight Patriots. Kolstad took the loss for the Reds, coming in as relief in the seventh inning. He gave up six runs and five hits.
Glasgow was in Billings Sunday and Monday to play the Cardinals and Blue Jays but scores were unavailable due to an early print deadline for the Courier this week.
The Reds host the Richland Patriots Thursday, June 29, for a doubleheader with games at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Glasgow hosts the Billings Cardinals Saturday, July 1, and the Billings Blue Jays Sunday, July 2, with games at 2 and 4 p.m. on both days.
