Mary Jane Rhodes

Mary Jane (Davis) Rhodes, age 85 of Glasgow, Mont., passed away at Valley View Home, in Glasgow, on Sunday, June 10, 2023.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 24, at Bell Mortuary, Glasgow, with a reception to follow.

Mary Jane was born Feb. 21, 1938, to Claude and Olive (Smith) Davis in Greybull, Wyo. She was loved by big sister Charlotte and big brother William "Bill." She graduated from high school in Basin, Wyo., and attended college in Powell, Wyo. She met Robert "Bob" Rhodes in 1957 and they married in March 1958.

Mary Jane and Bob lived in Basin, where their first child, Robert Michael "Mike" was born. They then moved near Moorcroft, Wyo., and lived on Coyote Creek where Bob worked at the True Oil gas plant. Children John and Rhonda joined the family.

When the gas plant was moved to North Dakota, Mary Jane and Bob took the family north to Watford City. They lived in Watford City from 1973 to 2000. Mary Jane was very involved in the community, serving as chamber president, worked with the community development board, and was an area Republican committee member. In 1988 Mary Jane and Rhonda opened the Century Office Supplies store. There she served the community as a bookkeeper, tax preparer, and purveyor of pens and gadgets.

Mary Jane and Bob moved to Littleton, Colo., in November of 2000 after the death of their son, John. They were seeking a place that was warmer in the winter. While in Littleton, Mary Jane worked as a secretary at St. Philip Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Fab 50's group which led her to meet some very extraordinary people.

Mary Jane and Bob moved to Glasgow in 2021 to be closer to their daughter. Shortly after arriving, she was diagnosed with cancer. She battled the disease until she was too tired to fight anymore.

Preceding her in death is her son, John; parents Claude and Olive Davis; brother Bill Davis and his wife Shirley; parents-in-law Allen Mayben and Bessie Rhodes; brother-in-law Allen Rhodes; sisters-in-law Linda Rhodes, Grace Busch and her husband George, and Frances Lass and her husband Bob.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Bob Rhodes, of Glasgow; son Mike (Jeri) Rhodes, of Littleton, Colo.; daughter Rhonda (Mitch) Griebel, of Glasgow; grandchildren Ben (Anna) Rhodes, of Parker, Colo., Davis (Christine Ehlers) Rhodes, of Fort Collins, Colo., Janice (Zach Bailey) Griebel, of Forsyth, Mont., and Debra Griebel, of Glasgow; great-grandson Cecil Griebel, of Glasgow; sister Charlotte Boquist, of Stanton, Calif., and brother-in-law Tom Rhodes, of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
