Scottie Boys, Girls Take Sixth at State
Glasgow's boys team scored 41 team points for sixth place at the MHSA Class B State Meet in Butte this past weekend while the girls scored 32 points to tie with Conrad for sixth place. The Scottie boys hit 10 new personal records and one season record while making nine podium appearances. The girls also had nine showings on the podium, while setting two new personal records.
Vaughn Miller was the only Scottie to win an event this year. The junior won the boys javelin with a season record throw of 163-05. He scored 10 team points for the Scotties. Miller's personal record 166-03 – came last year at the State meet where he finished in second place.
BOYS
Glasgow put three Scotties on the podium in the discus as Miller joined Wyatt Babb and Connor Hudyma in earning team points. Babb was the state runner-up with a personal record throw of 144-10, shattering his previous best at the Northern B Divisional meet by 8-2. He earned 8 team points. Miller scored 2 points with a 136-02 throw for fifth place. Connor Hudyma also set an individual record, throwing 132-07 for sixth place. His previous best was a 127'2 at the Northern B Divisional.
Hudyma took 19th in the shot put with a 38-02.25 toss. Nick Solorzano competed in the javelin alongside teammate Miller, throwing 123-01 for 18th place.
Lane Thompson earned 6 points in the pole vault with a third-place, personal record 13-06.00 vault for 6 team points. He beat his prior best – 13-00.00 – set at the Eastern B Divisional meet to close out his high school career. Solorzano also set a new individual record, clearing 11-06.00. He added a full foot to his previous best, also set at this year's Divisional meet. In addition, Toryn Richards set a personal record, jumping 38-06.25 in the triple jump for 16th place. He beat his 38-6.00 jump set at the District 2B Meet in Glasgow May 13.
Khye Gamas scored 1 point with a sixth-place showing in the 300m hurdles. He hit a personal best time of 42.44, 0.21 seconds better than his Northern B Divisional time. Adam Mickelson took 20th in the event with a 47.04 time. Gamas also set an individual record in the 110m hurdles at 16.92, a 0.07 second improvement. He finished ninth in the finals after running a 16.99 and finishing eighth in the prelims. The Scottie freshman earned 4 points in the 400 meters. He ran a personal best 52.27 for fourth place. He shaved 0.29 seconds off his previous record, set at the Divisional meet.
Kyler Holinde earned second place in the 1600 meters. He dropped 14.61 seconds off his previous best time, set April 29 at the Mustang Invitational, to finish the race in 4:32.06. Reed Larsen ran a 4:42.17 for eighth place. Larsen hit a personal best in the 800 meters, shaving 0.08 off his time from the Northern B Divisional. He earned 1 team point for his 2:03.93 sixth-place finish. Holinde placed 10th at 2:06.71 and Tavin Boland ran a 2:20.40 for 17th place.
Gamas, Thompson, Holinde and Larsen combined for the 4x400 relay, taking eighth place at 3:38.12. In the 4x100 relay, Gamas was joined by Richards, Kyler Whitman and Babb. The foursome ran a 46.24 to finish in 15th place.
GIRLS
Tanae Baker was the highest placer for the Scottie girls, taking second place and scoring 8 team points in the 3200 meters. She ran a 12:07.81 in Butte. Emily See came in fourth for 4 points, running the race in 12:15.38. Haleigh Huntsman ran a 13:56.24 for 17th place.
See and Baker also earned points in the 1600 meters. See set a new personal record at 5:26.10, taking 3.19 seconds off her previous best, set at the District 2B Meet May 13. See finished in third place and scored 6 points. Baker scored 2 points with a 5:31.78 fifth-place showing. See ran the 800 meters in 2:26.23 for ninth place while Baker took 12th at 2:30.15.
Gina Page scored 1 point in the 200 meters. The eighth-grader ran a 27.03 for sixth place. She qualified for the event with a 27.24, eighth-place finish in the prelims. Page took 13th in the 100 meters prelims, running a 13.57, while Joely Chappell ran the race 13.64 for a 17th place showing. Piper Johnson ran a 1:04.72 to take 18th place in the 400 meters.
Mayzie Yoakam, See, Johnson and Page combined for their best time in the 4x400 relay. The squad ran a 4:14.18 for third place and 6 points at State. Their previous record time was a 4:14.83 at the Top 10 May 2. Chappell, Johnson, Yoakam and Page ran a 53.17 in the 4x100 prelims to take 14th in the initial race.
The girls' remaining points came in the pole vault where three Scotties earned a spot on the podium. Eve Stone scored 4 points after clearing 9-06.00 for fourth place. Yoakam and Kira Beck tied for sixth place, splitting the single point for Glasgow, after both vaulted 9-06.00. The height marked a new personal best for eighth-grader Yoakam, a foot improvement from the 8-06.00 she had cleared in the preceding three meets.
Yoakam just missed the podium in the triple jump, taking seventh place with a 33-05.50 distance. Chappell jumped 31-05.25 for 14th place and Eve Stone finished in 17th with a 30-08.75 distance. Stone cleared 4-10.00 in the high jump for ninth place while Chappell claimed 15th in long jump with a 15-03.25 leap.
