Hi-Line Sportsmen Club Needs Your Help

Established in 2016, the Hi-Line Sportsmen Club has been an integral part of helping Keep Conservation Local in Northeast Montana. This nonprofit conservation group based primarily out of Glasgow exists almost exclusively to fundraise for projects that benefit sportsmen and women along the Hi-Line. Since the group’s inception, HLS has provided a variety of financial assistance for area projects and initiatives such as the Home Run Pond fishing pier, frisbee golf course in Fort Peck, targets for the Glasgow archery range, prizes and support of hunter education programs, scholarship opportunities for area students, equipment for precision rifle matches, contributions to the Glasgow pool fund, and many others. In addition to financial contributions benefiting sportsmen, outdoor recreation, and conservation efforts, members of HLS have volunteered their time participating in fence removal projects, mentored hunts, and youth hunting kick-off events.

Unfortunately, HLS has seen a decrease in participation as membership and interest in the group has waned over the last couple years. Currently, meaningful discussions about financials, discourse regarding timely conservation issues impacting the Hi-Line, and especially preparation and execution of the annual Hi-Line Sportsmen banquet has become an extremely large burden for the few active members that remain. Therefore, without additional members HLS will likely be forced to fold.

Hi-Line Sportsmen will be holding a meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23rd at Sam and Jeff’s for any new and existing members of Hi-Line Sportsmen. Attendance and participation at this meeting will directly decide the future of Hi-Line Sportsmen. If you are interested in becoming a member and ensuring Hi-Line Sportsmen continues to be a part of this community, please attend this meeting.

There is no fee to be a member of HLS. Membership responsibilities are minimal and consist of a 1.5-hour monthly meeting from September – May, a couple half days of conservation-centered volunteer work and assisting with the annual banquet the last weekend of February. Further, members have the opportunity to mentor hunters, contribute to the field-to-freezer program, and assist in deciding how funds raised by HLS are distributed to different area projects.

Current members of HLS couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished or more thankful for the community support shown to us over the last nine years.
