Scottie Softball Adds Two Wins to Record

The Scottie softball sluggers improved their record to 7-8, 4-3 in conference play, last week with two road wins. Glasgow traveled to Havre Friday where they downed the Class A Blue Ponies 13-0. They then overcame an 18-12 sixth inning deficit against the Cut Bank Wolves with a 13-run seventh run to win 25-18.

Glasgow jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first over their host Havre in the first game Friday. The Scotties shut out the Blue Ponies in the next two innings while sending three runners home in the second and five in the third to end the game early.

Brielle Partridge earned the win in the pitcher's circle with a two-hit shutout and four strikeouts.

Tatum Nyquist led the team at the plate, racking up two hits with a double and four RBIs while scoring three runs. Berkley Hillman had two hits with three RBIs. Daley Aune scored twice while adding two hits with an RBI and a stolen base. Ashlee Meland added two hits with a stolen base and crossed the plate twice. Macy Martin also scored while hitting a double with two RBIs.

Carly Nelson had a double with an RBI and crossed the plate for the Scotties. Stevie Hartwell scored twice with a hit and an RBI. Partridge scored twice and hit a double. Alexis Murdock added a hit and an RBI.

The Scotties then took on the Wolves. Glasgow overcame an error-filled game and a double-digit scoring inning by Cut Bank to win.

Cut Bank went up 1-0 after one and held a 3-2 lead after two. Glasgow took a one-run lead after three but fell behind in the fourth 8-5. The Scotties regained the lead after putting up four runs in the fifth and shutting out Cut Bank but the Wolves answered in the sixth, outscoring the Scotties 10-3. Glasgow had 11 errors in the inning.

However, the Scotties came through in the seventh, scoring on nine hits, a walk and two hit-by-pitches. Nyquist tied the game, sent home by a Martin single. Nelson sent Partridge across the plate on a single to win the game.

Aune won the game in the circle, throwing for six innings and giving up a single earned run with seven unearned runs. Meland spent the sixth inning in the circle, giving up one earned run and nine unearned due to errors.

Partridge had four hits and six RBIs while scoring three times. Hallman added four hits with a double and three RBIs and crossed the plate twice. Aune put a home run, three RBIs, two stolen bases and five scores on two hits. Meland added two hits, two RBIs, five scores and two stolen bases. Nelson put up two hits, two RBIs and scored once.

Hartwell had double, four RBIs and two scores. Martin had a hit with two RBIs and scored twice. Murdock added a hit and an RBI. Nyquist scored three times with two RBIs and Tess Miller scored twice.

Hillman leads the team this season with a .500 batting average while Meland is hitting .436 and Murdock .414. Aune leads in hits with 18, followed by Hartwell and Meland, both with 17.

In RBIs, Nyquist has 21 followed by Hartwell with 20 and Nelson with 16. Meland has scored 23 times and Aune has crossed the plate 21 times. Aune and Meland are tied in stolen bases with nine a piece.

Glasgow hosted the Class A Sidney Eagles Tuesday but scores were unavailable at press time.

The Scotties will be in Cut Bank Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, for the Class B/C East/West Challenge. The Eastern B/C Divisional Tournament will be in Billings Thursday and Friday, May 18-19.
