After Delays, Softball Season Is Underway

After weather delays resulted in a slightly later than normal start time to the season and Mother Nature continually throwing her own curve balls, the Glasgow Scottie softball team has finally hit the field, competing in six games so far this spring season with games in Colstrip this weekend, April 21 through 22.

The team is sitting at 1-5 record overall after losing their first three games of the season during tournament play April 6 though 7 at the Lewistown Invitational. The team then traveled to Sidney on April 11 to play against the Sidney Eagles, which the Scotties won 13-6.

In the first inning of the Sidney game, Stevie Hartwell grounded out, getting the Scotties on the board with one run. In the sixth inning, due to Tatum Nyquist's triple and a single by Ashlee Meland, the Scotties offense really took off, putting up four runs. Daley Aune was in the circle for the Scotties, only surrendering three runs on four hits over five innings, striking out eight.

The Scotties were on fire with stolen bases during the game, stealing 29 throughout the game, with Meland leading the way with seven. No errors on the Scotties end were recorded and Hartwell had the most chances in the field with 12.

The team took the high of this win to Miles City a few days later, on April 13, to compete however the game did not go in their favor. Hartwell again started the game off with the Scotties with a ground out, scoring one run in the first inning. However Miles City took the scoring chances right away with five runs in the second inning, and then scored another five runs in the fourth inning.

Once again, Aune was in the circle going one and two-third innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out one. Meland and Brielle Patridge each took turns on the mound, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings respectively.

Both Aune and Hartwell all had one hit to lead the team and once again Hartwell had the most chances in the field with four.

The Scotties hosted their first home game of the season at Jeff Jurgens Field on April 17 with an 11-8 loss against Glendive. Glendive came to town swinging scoring a home run and a double within the first inning. Glasgow then followed with three runs in the fifth inning, with Macy Martin, Carly Nelson and Berkley Hillman all getting runs in the frame. Glendive answered back with four runs in the sixth inning, securing the lead.

Partridge led things off on the mound for Glasgow, allowing 10 hits and six runs over four innings, striking out one and walking zero. Daley Aune and Meland entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innigns respectively.

The Scotties tallied a total of 17 hits, with Hillman, Alexis Murdock, Hartwell, Meland and Partridge each getting multiple hits. Hartwell, Murdock and Hillman each collected three to lead the team. Once again Hartwell had the most of the team with nine chances in the field.
