Six Candidates Running For Two Open Seats On Nashua School Board

The Nashua School has six candidates running for two positions on the school board. The candidates are, in no particular order, Sheila Toavs Miller, Tyler Skolrud, Teresa Kennedy, Patricia Sibley, Joe Laumeyer and William Philippi. The two open seats are now held by Toavs Miller and Matt Garsjo.

In addition to voting for school board members, the Nashua ballot will also include a Building Fund Reserve levy proposition in the amount of $400,000 per year for five years for a total of $2,000,000.

The vote will be a mail-ballot election and all ballots were mailed on April 14.

The following biographies for the school board members were provided to The Glasgow Courier by the Nashua School:

Sheila Toavs Miller

Hi, My name is Sheila Toavs Miller and I am running for another term on the Nashua K-12 school board. I have been a member of the Nashua community and a local business owner for 25 years. Both of my children attended Nashua K-12, and I have been a board member for 3 years. I believe that every child deserves a good education to prepare them to be free thinkers and thrive outside of high school. The Nashua K-12 school is essential not only for our children, but for our small community. I will work tirelessly for the school to achieve these goals.

Sincerely,

Sheila Toavs Miller

Teresa Kennedy

The reason why I am running is because my children asked me to. I know I would be a great advocate for the students, teachers and school to have a good education and safe environment. I believe being opened minded and fair, I would be able to help the current and future students. I want to be part of my children’s education, it is very important to me. My children’s motto for me is, “I AM THERE FOR STUDENTS THROUGH THE GOOD AND BAD.”

Tyler Skolrud

I was raised in Nashua all school years and graduated in 2001. I followed a long line of family members graduating from Nashua; starting back to 1949. I have 3 kids that go to Nashua School, a Junior, a 3rd grader, and a 2nd grader. After graduation I was enlisted and deployed to Iraq and Kuwait. While on deployment I was in charge of the maintenance section making decisions. I now work as a maintenance technician for CMR wildlife refuge. I am here to help the school succeed. I only want the best for our students and staff. We would all like to see the continued existence of the Nashua School for years to come and to do that we need a strong staff and board.

Joe Laumeyer

My name is Joe Laumeyer and I am not only a graduate but lifelong resident of Nashua as well. I’m married to my wife Crystal and together we have four children, Taylor, Trace, Caden and Ellie. Taylor and Trace have both graduated from Nashua while Caden and Ellie are still attending school at Nashua. I’m running for one of the school board positions to help keep promoting Nashua Schools continued success in being the school of choice where our students have every opportunity to graduate with a high quality education. Feel free to contact me anytime with any questions you may have for or about me on my cellphone 406-263-9349

Patti Sibley

Greetings! My name is Patti Sibley, I am a 2002 Nashua graduate, my husband, Norm, is a 2001 Nashua graduate. We have 3 kids in Nashua School, Norman is a freshman, Wyatt is a 7th grader and Addilyn is in 2nd grade. All 3 of our kids have attended Nashua since Kindergarten. I was employed by Nashua School from 2015-2017 as the Assistant Cook, before taking my current job at FMDH as the Prior Authorization Representative. I volunteered as the Vice President on the Nashua PTO when it was active. I have always valued the staff and teachers as they have proven to me to be a huge asset to our school and students. My vision is to ensure the excellence in our student’s education and the continued existence of Nashua School for years to come.

William Philippi

He lives a couple miles out of Nashua. He is a farmer/rancher. His family graduate from Nashua a long time ago and he will have two kids in school, one of them starting in 2023 as a kinder and the other one in a couple years! He wants to see the school succeed! His one goal if he gets on the board is to ensure that Nashua has a school for many many years to come!
