Track And Field Kick Off Season

After the cancellation of the Glasgow Invitational due to weather conditions, Valley County track and field athletes officially started their season this past weekend during the Wibaux Invitational in Glendive.

The Lustre Christian boys took third place out of 20 teams with 74 points.

The Scottie boys finished in fifth place overall out of 20 teams with 44 team points while the Scottie girls also took fifth place out of 22 teams with 45 team points. Freshman Khye Gamas took the podium with 43.89 at the 300 M hurdles and Vaughn Miller won the javelin with a State B qualifying throw of 162' 6".

The Scottie Boys 3200 M relay, comprised of Gamas, Reed Larsen, Lane Thompson and Kyler Holinde won with a time of 3:42.

On the girls' side, Emily See finished in second place in the 3200M. Her time of 12:04 auto qualifies her for the State B meet this year.

Kira Beck also auto-qualified for State in the pole vault with a mark of 9'0" followed by Emily Stone's State qualifying 9'6".

Stone also qualified for the high jump at 4' 10" as well as Tanae Baker in the 800 M with a time of 2:25.

Class C athletes also had an impressive showing with Lustre Christian High School's senior Jasiah Hambira placing second in the 200 meters with a team of 23.92 and the 400 meters with a 53.22. He also placed first in the high jump with a 6-02.00. Johnslee Pierre, also of Lustre Christian High School, placed second in the 110m Hurdles with a PR of 17.59.

Tia Dees, of Nashua, placed fifth in the shot put with 32-0600 and second in the discus with 94-01. She also placed seventh in the javelin with 92-04.

The top two placers in the long jump belonged to Hambria with 21-05.75 and Xander Pugh, of Nashua with a 20-08.00. Hambria also placed first in the triple jump with 42-08.75.

The Glasgow Scotties will compete at the Baker Invitational this Saturday, April 15 while Frazer, Nashua and Lustre Christian are scheduled to compete at the Scobey Invitational at Wolf Point on Saturday. Hinsdale is next scheduled to compete in the April 21 WW/Saco Invitational at Glasgow Scottie Field.
