Bantam Ice Dawgs Second At State

Post 5-1 Record At 14U B Tourney In Havre

The Bantam Ice Dawgs returned from Havre this past weekend with a second-place trophy from the 14U B Montana Amateur Hockey Association Tournament. Glasgow went 5-1 in their games over the four-day tournament, losing the championship game 8-3 to Butte Sunday afternoon.

The Dawgs opened the tournament Thursday with a 5-2 win over the Billings Bulls. Friday Glasgow downed the Bozeman Icedogs 9-1 before rolling over the Helena Bighorns 15-0 that evening. Saturday the Dawgs faced off against the Havre Ice Hawks and claimed a 7-3 victory.

Glasgow's fourth win left them as one of three undefeated teams in the tournament. Butte won the first tiebreaker to take first seed while Glasgow faced a play-in game against Great Falls for the right to enter the chipper. The Dawgs beat the Americans 6-5 in the final minutes of the game for the right to challenge Butte for the top slot Sunday. The Copper City Kings won the final game of the season powered by a 3-0 performance in the third period.

In their first game, the Dawgs claimed a 2-0 lead in the first period over the Bulls. Ellery Dedobbleer started the scoring action just 1:05 into play with an assist from Landon Honey. Brody Hansen made it 2-0 just under two-and-a-half minutes later and gave the Dawgs a 3-0 lead just over a minute after that. Billings scored twice in the second period while shutting Glasgow out giving the Dawgs a 3-2 lead heading into the third period. Honey doubled Glasgow's lead with 11:30 remaining in the game and Hansen sealed the win three-plus minutes later.

The Dawgs outshot the Bulls by an astonishing 71-22 margin. Glasgow goaltender Jacob Potter turned in a 90.9 save percentage.

Billings had two penalties while Glasgow served time for three infractions. Gryffen Collins sat for hooking in the first. Hansen, interference, and Halle Hunter, slashing, sat in the third.

Hudson Honey put the Dawgs on the board first in their game against Bozeman, scoring just 54 seconds into the first period. Hansen and L. Honey assisted on the goal. L. Honey made it 2-0 six-plus minutes later before the Icedogs scored their first goal. H. Honey, assist L. Honey, closed out the first with his second goal of the game, giving the Dawgs a 3-1 lead going into the second period.

Glasgow owned the second period, outshooting Bozeman 19-8 and outscoring them 5-0. Hansen struck first with a helper from Reilly Llewellyn followed by Hunter Negus, assists L. Honey and H. Honey. Hansen netterda power-play goal as did Collins with an assist from Jack Miller. L. Honey also found the back of the net on the man-advantage. The lone goal in the third came from H. Honey with an assist from Hansen.

The Dawgs outshot the Icedogs 48-24. Potter turned away 23 shots for a 95.8 save percentage.

Bozeman had three penalties for 13 minutes while Glasgow had nine minutes on six infractions in the game. Hansen, roughing; Hunter, cross check, and H. Honey, roughing sat in the first while Hansen took another seat in the second for interference. Collins, interference, and Miller, tripping, took involuntary seats in the third.

Friday night Potter earned a shutout for Glasgow, turning away 17 attempts on his net while his teammates fired 61 pucks at the Bighorns' netminder. The Dawgs scored five goals in the first, six in the second and four in the third in the huge win.

L. Honey was first to find the back of the net. Negus was next with help from Hansen followed by a goal from Hansen. H. Honey, assisted by L. Honey scored the final two goals of the first period.

Negus and Miller assisted on Hansen's goal to start the second. L. Honey hit on the man-advantage with help from H. Honey followed by Collins and two from Hansen. Negus closed out the second with a helper from Collins.

H. Honey helped L. Honey start the third-period scoring onslaught. Hansen added the next goal with assists from L. Honey and H. Honey. Collins assisted L. Honey on his fourth of the game. L. Honey then earned the assist on a Hansen power-play goal to close out the game.

Helena had three penalties to Glasgow's lone infraction. Hansen served an interference call in the first period.

Glasgow downed the home team Ice Hawks Saturday, winning 7-3 after shutting Havre out in the first period. Hansen struck first for Glasgow, scoring 3:30 into the game. Negus netted the second goal with help from Collins and Hansen closed out the period, giving the Dawgs a 3-0 lead.

Carter Holte started the second period scoring with an assist from L. Honey. H. Honey then helped out on L. Honey's goal. Havre scored to make the game 5-1 but L. Honey, helpers H. Honey and Collins, increased the Dawgs' lead to 6-1 before intermission.

Havre struck first in the third but Miller, assist L. Honey, answered. The Ice Hawks slipped one more puck past Potter but were unable to eliminate the scoring deficit they faced. Potter faced 34 shots between the pipes for a 91.2 save percentage while the Dawgs' offense fired 50 biscuits at the Havre netminder.

Hansen served Glasgow's only penalty, sitting in the box for interference in the first. Havre served a penalty in each the first and second periods.

That evening Glasgow took on Great Falls, one of the three undefeated teams left in the tournament. The Dawgs dug deep to secure the 6-5 win with a three-goal showing in the final period.

Hansen netted the first goal of the game but the Americans scored the next two. Hansen, assist Dedobbleer, tied the game with just over two minutes left in the first.

The Americans slid a puck past Potter early in the second but Hansen answered to tie the game again. Great Falls found the back of the net again one minute, 21 seconds prior to intermission for a 4-3 lead game heading into the final period.

The Americans took a 5-3 lead early in the third but the Dawgs were determined. Hansen scored two goals starting a minute later to tie the game and Holte put Glasgow ahead with 2:32 to play on an assist from L. Honey.

Great Falls had only one infraction while Glasgow was called for two penalties. Negus took a seat for tripping in the second and L. Honey was sent to the box in the third for interference.

Glasgow was outshot 58-39 over three periods with Potter turning in a 91.4 save percentage.

The win advanced the Dawgs to the championship game at noon on Sunday agains the Copper City Kings. The Dawgs again found themselves outshot, this time by a 65-29 margin. Glasgow gave up two power plays goals on four Butte man-advantages.

The Kings scored just 29 seconds into the game but L. Honey tied the game just over a minute later. Butte reclaimed a one-goal lead with just under two minutes until the first buzzer.

The second period was all Butte as they put up three goals while shutting Glasgow out on a 19-11 shot advantage.

Hansen tried to get the Dawgs back in the game with a goal 28 seconds into the third but Butte maintained their lead with a goal 32 seconds later. Hansen tried again, scoring with help from Collins, but the Kings responded with two more goals before the final buzzer to secure the win and the first-place trophy. Potter had an 87.7 save percentage for the Dawgs.

Glasgow was called for four penalties while Butte sat for three infractions. Hunter, Collins and Hansen were all sent to the sin bin in the second for roughing. Dedobbleer sat for tripping in the third.
