Glasgow voters passed a $16.8 million levy to build a new K-5 Irle School and make substantial improvements at East Side and Glasgow High School. The vote was 1,151 to 945. The vote was reversed in the defeat of the second levy requested, $2 million to remodel the entrance of the administration building to ADA standards, upgrade the GHS auditorium seating, improve the high school playing fields and pave the parking lot.
U.S. Rep. Steve Daines, R-Mont., commended Glasgow's Abbi Helland for being selected Miss Teen Montana International on the floor of the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.
The snowfall on Sunday was a one-day record for Glasgow. At the National Weather Service in Glasgow, they measured 5.3 inches, whacking the 1997 record by almost 2 inches. This pushed Glasgow 7.8 inches ahead of normal for March snowfall.
Neither Snow nor rain players and fans wouldn't be turned away from the Jeff Jurgens Memorial Tournament comprised of 90 teams, more than 740 kids, across six age divisions, split into boys' and girls' brackets.
Daniel Horsman has a 4.0 cumulative GPA and was named an All-State basketball player as a sophomore. Those two achievements speak for themselves. Daniel joins the list of Frazer greats. Daniel is only a sophomore with a chance to be a three-time All-State player, unheard of in Frazer's lengthy basketball-rich tradition.
To wrap up the winter sports season, 17 Scotties were name Academic All-State Qualifiers. Seniors Alaina Cole, Alex Page and Laurel Wageman and juniors Erika Hartsock, Abby Dalbey Megan Rasmusan and Haylee Redfield represent the Scottie girls basketball team. The boys were represented by juniors Lachlan Vaira and Lane Herbert as well as sophomore Chase Fossum and Keil Krumwiede and freshman Zach Miller. Juniors Abigail Helland, Madison Hansen, sophomore Josie Bratten and Amy Breigenzer were named for the cheerleading squad. For the grapplers, sophomore Eddie Daggett qualified.

Only four weeks after the lifting of a 10-month-long rabies quarantine, the state veterinarian has placed Valley County under rabies quarantine again. The order is dated March 12.
Gladys Silk, the matriarch of The Glasgow Courier, died in Missoula of cancer at age 75. She started working at the Courier in the early 1960s, typesetting and doing ads, then moved to the social pages, where she wrestled wedding stories and correspondents' columns into clear English. Courier publisher John Stanislaw said, "Gladys is up there telling God how to write a newspaper."
Glasgow resident J.R. Myers has filed as a Republican candidate for election to the Public Service Commission from District 1, a 22-county area which is the largest district in the state.
Mark Nielsen bowled a record high series of 804 at Vick's Lanes in Nashua, during the Nashua Scratch League. He had scores of 246, 279 and 279 for his record. The veteran bowler will receive an 800 series ring from the American Bowling Congress for his accomplishment.
Still undefeated. That is what the Glasgow Scotties are after they defeated Choteau twice in the Northeast B Divisional tournament held in Chinook over the weekend.
For being in the program for only three years, Nashua volleyball has become one of the stronger teams in the eastern division. This year for the first time, the Porcupines brought home a trophy from the district tournament, finishing third. They also advanced to the divisional tournament for the first time.

Bookmobile service in a four-county area gets underway. Marcie Mersen, bookmobile driver and librarian for the mobile unit will travel approximately 1,380 miles covering the four counties, Valley, Philips, Sheridan and Daniels, making 34 stops in the various communities.
Louanne Pauley of Glasgow Air Force Base parlayed poise and precision to win the A-Singles Competition and then teamed up with fellow Air Base ace Joan Hager to win the doubles competition in the First Annual Women's' Hi-Line Racquetball Tournament held at the Civic Center in Glasgow.
Larry Oliver and Dean Watson, of Glasgow, earned two of four scholarships to the Westwoods Stage Band Camp in New England, N.D., awarded at the stage band festival in Glendive over the weekend.
Valley County CowBelles approved a rotating system of electing a director for district three at a meeting. Mrs. Harold Doebler, of Hinsdale, is the new district director, and will attend the executive meeting in Helena and the state convention in Great Falls. She is also active in community affairs.

The Glasgow Scotties came out of last week's Northern Divisional tourney in Havre as holders of fifth place, just one notch below the spot that would have qualified them for a state tournament berth at Missoula.
Recognizing that nowadays a sheriff has to have more than a six-gun and a star to enforce the law and apprehend criminals, Sheriff Mason Melvin has completed work on a miniature but complete photographic darkroom.
Efforts to provide funds for development of The Pines recreation area on Fort Peck reservoir are meeting with an enthusiastic response both within and outside Valley County borders.
For the second year, Fort Peck's squad copped the Frazer second annual invitational independent basketball tournament by defeating Nashua 56 to 33 in the final contest. Playing before a large crowd, the project American Legion club easily defeated the cold Nashua squad.
