Law Enforcement Report

For the week of March 6 through 12, there were four motor vehicle stops and 13 reports of vehicle sliding off the road.

Monday, March 6

1400 – A male called in on 911 and was hard to understand. A second male got on the phone and stated the semi had jackknifed in the roadway and was blocking traffic. At 1405, it was determined one lane of travel opened up and the deputy reports they were able to get the semi straightened out.

1451 – Deputy advised MTDOT are out attempting to clear a large drift. The deputy will provide traffic control while the crews turn around.

1524 – A public assist call was recorded. Deputy advised he spoke with a driver who was concerned about making it on the road as he has an empty trailer.

1842 – Caller reported Hwy 117 between Nashua and Fort Peck is down to one lane of traffic and had three to four feet snow drifts on it. MTDOT was notified.

Tuesday, March 7

0148 – Caller stated he spent two hours getting his wife out of approximately 3.5 feet of snow on the highway. Both his wife and the pickup are now home. The reporting party stressed the highway needs to be shut down. MTDOT was called and advised of the call. It was stated that DOT drivers will make the call regarding shutting down the highway when they are out there.

0421 – Reporting party asked if there was an ETA on when the plows were coming out. She stated the highway kept getting deeper as they went on so they stopped.

0708 – Reporting party called stating there has been a rollover. The vehicle is on its side on the north side of the highway in the ditch. The driver is standing up in the vehicle so possible there are no injuries. Deputy was notified who requested Fire to help with traffic control. At 0814, a deputy advised the vehicle has been tipped back upright and there is not a lot of damage to the vehicle.

0729 – Fire Chief stated the eastbound lane is totally snowed in so it is down to one lane of traffic.

1034 – Reporting party called to report a vehicle, front end damage, that is driving back and forth between Frazer and Nashua. He has almost caused an accident by passing a vehicle when a semi was coming the other way. The truck had to almost hit the ditch to avoid an accident. The caller said when this subject passed him he thought he may have been going approximately 80 miles per hour. The caller advised he has seen him going back and forth three times now. He is willing to sign a complaint.

1814 – Caller reported that someone hit a deer. The vehicle is gone but the deer is in the south ditch and still alive.

2233 – A public assist call was recorded. Deputy advised the person pulled over to sleep.

Wednesday, March 8

1709 – Caller reported a semi is trying to back out of the underpass. It’s backing up traffic. An officer was notified.

Thursday, March 9

0727 – A male called wanting to know if there is anyone at the hospital that could see his wife. He states she is on the tail end of COVID and is done with her meds. She is having very low energy, and states she can’t stand up for more than 20 seconds. Dispatch advised an ambulance could come get her and he said no he doesn’t believe he needs an ambulance as he will take her himself. Dispatch called the nurses station and passed along the information, and the nurse advised to have the wife brought in.

0858 – Reporting party called stating there is a SUV that has been riding a plow that is out. There are two people in the vehicle. While talking, she said they have now passed the plow and seems as they are speeding. She doesnt think it is very safe for them with all the ice on the road. At 0901, deputy advised seeing a couple SUV vehicles but neither were speeding.

1611 – Reporting party called in requesting an officer. He is out with a kid whose left front tire has come off his vehicle. He states the vehicle is mostly off the road but is sticking out some on the lane of travel. At 1624, deputy advised he spoke to the reporting party and have the spare tire on the vehicle.

2118 – Reporting party stated her daughter witnessed an older Jeep sort of SUV. The vehicle stopped and a male got out, checked the doors of her boyfriend’s vehicle parked across the street, and couldn’t get in. Then got back into the vehicle and left going down the hill. Per an officer, after following up with the reporting party, there was no entry in the vehicle, just wanted some extra patrols.

2330 – Reporting party stated a deer was hit and is still alive. It’s trying to get up but appears their back is broken. At 2354 the deer has been dispatched.

Friday, March 10

1341 – MT DOT called stating they just have issued severe driving conditions. Deputy notified the radio.

1639 – Caller reported his daughter hit a deer last night on Hwy 24S about a mile out of Glasgow. He wanted to speak with an officer about possibly looking at the vehicle.

1711 – Caller stated they are stuck in the baseball field at Sullivan Park. She’s out with her husband and two kids. Her husband is trying to dig them out. Dispatch asked if they would like a wrecker. At 1730, deputy advised they are digging the car out.

1837 – Deputy reported they are digging out a vehicle that’s stuck in the driveway.

2031 – BNSF called to advise the crossing arms are no longer attached. He hasn’t been able to reach a tech yet. When he does the ETA will be about 90 minutes to get him there for the repair.

2032 – Deputy requested DOT be called about road conditions west of Glasgow along US 2.

2039 – MT DOT in Helena called advising they have an emergency road closure MT Hwy 24N from US Hwy 2 in Glasgow at MM1 to Opheim at MM50. Deputies were notified.

2113 – Caller advised his wife got stuck in the middle of Bauer Road about 1 to 1 ½ miles from home. The reporting party walked home and the flashers are off so the battery wouldn’t go dead. The County Road Department and deputy were notified.

Saturday, March 11

0026 – Caller reported he is stuck in the snow. Officer arrived who advised the driver’s car is stuck and will be parked for the night. The officer then requested the City Road Department be called to get the roads plowed.

0101 – Driver called requesting a wrecker’s number because his buddy can’t get out at his place. At 0343, officer advised the car is out and they are clearing a path so he can get on the main road.

0136 – Caller stated he was coming back toward Glasgow and heading home to St Marie and heard the road is shut down. He was wondering if there was a way to get up there. Dispatch advised the road was shut down. He then requested a deputy to call him.

0201 – Deputy requested DOT be contacted to have plows brought out to plow in Valley County. There are places where it is only accessible in one lane or some places that are completely inaccessible.

0357 – Officer advised he will be directing a semi to a business where he can park and wait for the roads to be plowed.

0718 – Someone is stuck in the parking lot. She was able to make it into the parking lot but when she went to back out this morning she got stuck. There is no one at the office and she is trying to get back on the road to go home. Dispatch was able to get in contact with the hotel and the male stated he doesn’t have anyone coming to clear the parking lot. He has been in contact with the female, who asked for a shovel to be able to dig out.

0722 – Deputy with Phillips County called to find out if there were any slide offs involving a U-Haul because they are waiting for a U-Haul to open up to gather further information before being entered into the system. The truck was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Phillips County.

0806 – Reporting party called and state her daughters got stuck this morning on their way to work. It is insure if the car is a hazard on the roadway. The driver couldn’t tell with the snow. The reporting party stated they are snowed in at their home and are trying to get that direction to hopefully free the vehicle. They would like an officer to check on the car and call them to alert them if they need to get there and bring shovels right away. At 0819, officer advised the car is going to need to be moved.

0931 – Reporting party stated she is out delivering mail and spotted a vehicle stuck in the roadway. She couldn’t get close enough to the vehicle to see fi they are alright. It was determined the vehicle was parked there while the owner was driving the tractor clearing the drifts.

1920 – A 911 call was received from a male who states he clipped a deer on the passenger’s side of his grill. He went out and checked and there is no damage to it. He said he is not from here and didn’t know what the laws are regarding this type of situation.
