Scottie Boys Advance to Northern B Divisional Take Fourth at District 2B Tourney

Glasgow's boys basketball team kept their season alive with a fourth place finish at the District 2B tournament in Malta this past weekend. Glasgow defeated Harlem 62-50 in the opening round of the 2B tourney, before losing 68-55 to Wolf Point Friday. The Scotties took the Poplar Indians to overtime but lost 56-55 in the Consolation game Saturday.

Glasgow led 17-16 after one Thursday, barely outpacing a hot-shooting Wildcats team. The Scotties outscored Harlem 14-8 in the second for a 31-24 halftime lead. Glasgow put up 19 in the third while holding Harlem to 16 points and outpaced them again, 12-10, in the final eight minutes.

Wyatt Babb poured in 20 points, leading all scorers, with two threes and a 2-for-4 free throw showing. KJ Ingram hit for 10 with two treys. Riley Smith, Keigan Ingram and Cade Hudyma all scored 9, with Smith draining 5-of-6 free throws, Ke. Ingram hitting a shot from downtown, and Hudyma scoring on 1-of-2 bonus shots. Ashton Potter scored 5 with a three-pointer.

Glasgow held their fouls to seven, six in the second half, giving Poplar four bonus shots of which they hit three. Poplar had 11 fouls, eight after intermission, sending the Scotties to the line 12 times, where they connected on 66.7 percent of their attempts. Smith had three fouls, Hudyma two, and Babb and Ke. Ingram one each.

Glasgow had 37 rebounds, led by Ke. Ingram with 14 boards. Babb and Hudyma each snagged seven, followed by Smith with five, KJ Ingram with three and Potter with one.

The Scotties had 14 assists, nine steals and 15 turnovers. Babb had six assists followed by Potter with four, Smith two, and KJ Ingram and Ke. Ingram with one each. KJ Ingram led in steals with four with Potter and Babb getting two takeaways and Ke. Ingram one. Smith had three blocks and KJ. Ingram stopped one shot.

The loss pitted Glasgow against Wolf Point Friday where the Wolves took control of the game in the second half. The Scotties led 15-10 after one and 27-23 at the half. Wolf Point lit up the nets for 24 in the third and 21 in the fourth while holding Glasgow to 9 and 19 in the same frames.

Hudyma led the Scotties with 19 points, hitting 3-of-4 free throws. Babb added 11 with two threes and a 3-for-5 showing at the line. KJ Ingram scored 9 with a trey and two free throws. Smith and Ke. Ingram scored 6 each. Jordan Cook and Vaughn Miller added 2 a piece.

Glasgow had 14 fouls, split evenly between the halves, giving the Wolves 13 free throw attempts. Wolf Point shot 69.2 percent at the line. Wolf Point was called for 17 fouls, nine after intermission, giving Glasgow 15 bonus shots. The Scotties hit 66.7 percent of their free throws.

Cook was called for four fouls while Smith and Babb drew the officials attention three times each. Ke. Ingram had two fouls while Potter, KJ. Ingram and Hudyma had one foul a piece.

The Scotties had 37 rebounds, 18 assists, two steals, five blocks and 20 turnovers. Hudyma grabbed 12 boards followed by Ke. Ingram with seven; Babb, five; Smith, four; Potter, three; KJ Ingram, two, and Toryn Richards, Myles Yoakam, Connor Hudyam and Miller, one each. Babb led in assists with seven. Ke. Ingram had three helpers with Cook and KJ Ingram each adding two. Potter, Richards, Miler and Ca. Hudyma had one assist a piece. Richards and Yoakam each had a steal. KJ Ingram had two blocks with Smith, Yoakam and Ca. Hudyma stopping one shot each.

Glasgow faced Poplar in the consolation game, dropping a tough overtime game to the Indians.

Glasgow trailed 12-7 after one but fought back to close the gap to 1 point by the half, 22-21. Poplar owned the third quarter with 20 points while holding Glasgow to 9 points. Trailing 42-30 heading into the fourth, Glasgow surged with 19 points and held the Indians to 7 to tie the score at 49-49 when the buzzer sounded. Yoakam started the scoring surge with a three-pointer, giving the Scotties the spark they needed.

Glasgow was up late in overtime but Poplar outpaced them by a point for the win.

Babb led all scorers with 23 points, hitting 3-of-6 free throws. Ke. Ingram scored 10 points. KJ Ingram and Ca. Hudyam both put up 8 points. Yoakam scored 5 with his trey and Smith hit a free throw.

Glasgow had 12 fouls, eight after halftime, giving Poplar 17 chances at the line. The Indians connected on 10 of their free throws. Poplar was called for 10 fouls, seven after the intermission, giving Glasgow nine bonus shots. The Scotties hit four of those shots.

KJ Ingram was called for four fouls. Smith, Babb and Ca. Hudyma each drew two whistles. Potter, Richards and Ke. Ingram had one foul a piece.

As a team, the Scotties had 48 rebounds, nine assists, seven steals, five blocks and 16 turnovers. Ke. Ingram led in assists with 15 followed by Ca. Hudyma with 12 boards. Smith and KJ Ingram had six each with Babb grabbing five and Yoakam two rebounds. Potter and Cook had one each.

Babb had five assists followed by Potter with two and Smith and KJ Ingram one each. Smith, Babb and Ca. Hudyma each had two steals with Ke. Ingram snagging one takeaway. Cook, Smith, Babb, Ke. Ingram and Ca. Hudyma stopped one Poplar shot each.

Even with the "tough ending" head coach Paul Yoakam is optimistic about his team, taking the loss as a good learning experience. "Ya, saw a lot of good things happen for the first time that game. Pretty promising," he told the Courier.

The Scotties will attend the Northern B Boys Basketball Tournament in Shelby Thursday through Saturday, March 2-4. A bracket will appear in next week's Courier.
