Scottie Boys Beat Harlem, Lose to Poplar

Glasgow's boys basketball team went 1-1 in the final weekend of regular play, posting a 2-6, 8-10 overall record heading into the postseason. The Scotties defeated the Harlem Wildcats 69-45 for Senior Night in Glasgow Friday before falling 51-47 in Poplar the following night.

Glasgow went up 19-13 after one quarter Friday night and outscored Harlem 18-11 in the second. The Scotties held the Wildcats to 2 in the third while putting up 16 points in the same frame for a 53-26 lead heading into the final quarter. Harlem outpaced Glasgow 19-16 in the final eight minutes.

Keigan Ingram led all scorers with 21 points, hitting 1-of-2 free throws. Riley Smith added 12, draining all four of his bonus shots. Wyatt Babb scored 11 with a three pointer. Cade Hudyma connected for 8 points. Myles Yoakam hit two from downtown for 6 and Jordan Cook added 5 with a free throw. Ashton Potter and KJ Ingram both scored 3 with 1-for-2 showings at the line. Glasgow shot 57.1 percent from the line.

Glasgow held their fouls to 10, six in the second half, while Harlem had 13, seven after the break. KJ Ingram was called for four while Ke. Ingram and Hudyma each drew two whistles. Cook and Yoakam had one foul a piece.

Hudyma dominated the boards with 12 rebounds followed by Ke. Ingram with eight and Babb with seven. Smith and KJ Ingram each snagged five rebounds while Potter had four. Nick Solorzano and Toryn Richards pulled down one rebound each.

Babb had eight assists for the Scotties followed by Smith with four, and Cook and KJ Ingram, both with three. Potter had two helpers while Solorzano, Richards, Yoakam and Hudyma added an assist each.

KJ Ingram had three steals followed by Ke. Ingram with two, and Potter and Hudyma one each. Smith had two blocks in the win. KJ Ingram had four turnovers followed by Smith with three, and Ke. Ingram and Hudyma with two a piece. Potter and Yoakam each had one giveaway.

The JV team also took the win with a 70-34 score. The first, second and four quarters saw the Scotties score double digits, while the third quarter only saw the team score nine points. Vaughn Miller and Myles Yoakam were the high scorers, with Hansen, who played double duty on C and JV, scored a total of 14 points in the game.

In the first half, the Scotties kept to three team fouls compared to Harlem's 12, while the second half was the opposite with the Scotties recording nine team fouls compared to Harlem's four. Throughout the game there were many free throw attempts with Hansen, Connor Hudyma and Runner each making the net.

The Glasgow C Squad took the win against Harlem with a 57-35 score. The first half saw the Scotties take the lead that they never let go of with Wyatt Sugg, Noah Runner, Klay Cornwell and Davis Tolzien all scoring within the first quarter. The second quarter saw Cam Nelson, Sugg, Andy Hanson, Cornwell and Tolzien contributing to the score, which resulted in a 28-15 at the half. Rex Monson and Hanson each had the opportunity at the charity stripe during the first half, and each ball sunk the net. The second half saw the same domination with the Scotties' scoring 11 points in the third and 18 points in the fourth. Though there were many opportunities by Nelson at the charity stripe, but he was only able to hit one. Cornwell also contributed to the score via the free-throw line making one of his two attempts in the fourth quarter. The Scotties recorded 17 total fouls to Harlem's 12.

Saturday night Glasgow led 14-10 after one against Poplar. The score was tied 26-26 heading into the second half. The Scotties outscored Poplar 12-9 in the third but were outpaced 16-9 in the final eight minutes. The Indians hit 11-of-14 free throws after the break while Glasgow connected on only 1-of-8 bonus shots in the second half.

Babb put up 18 points for Glasgow followed by Ca. Hudyma with 13 points. Ke. Ingram scored 7, Smith 4, KJ Ingram 3 on a shot from downtown and Richards 2 points. The Scotties hit 6-of-15 total free throws for 40 percent, while Poplar shot 69 percent at the line, connecting on 16-of-23 bonus shots.

Both teams were called for 19 fouls, with 10 of Glasgow's coming in the second half. KJ. Ingram and Ke. Ingram both drew four whistles. Potter, Smith, Richards, Babb and Ca. Hudyma had two fouls each. Cook had one infraction.

Ca. Hudyma had 11 rebounds and Ke. Ingram 10. Babb snagged six boards while KJ Ingram added five. Potter grabbed three boards while Cook, Smith and Richards each had two rebounds.

Babb led in assists with five followed by Potter with three, Smith two, and KJ Ingram, Richards and Ke. Ingram one helper each.

The JV team took the win against Poplar, 72-54. The first half saw the Scotties score a total of 38 points, courtesy of Myles Yokam scoring three three-pointers and Jordan Cook scoring two two-pointers and one three-pointer. The second quarter saw Andy Hanson step up with a three pointer and two two-pointers. Poplar was down 31 when the second half started, however the Scotties' kept their win goal in sight. Yoakam was the lead scorer in the third quarter, with multiple three-pointers with the assistance of Cook, Hanson and Vaughn Miller all scoring one two-pointer each.

Scotties kept their team fouls to five while Poplar had two total fouls throughout the four quarters.

The Glasgow C Squad also took the win against Poplar 58-45, dominating the first half with 11 and 13 points, compared to Poplar's four points in the first and four points in the second. The half ended with the Scotties' up 26-8. The third quarter saw Poplar attempt to bounce back scoring 25 points, though the Scotties' didn't give up, scoring 16 points, mostly two-pointers from Wyatt Sugg, Klay Cornwell, and a three pointer by Cam Nelson. A free throw attempt by Noah Runner was also successful. The third quarter ended with a score of 42-33, Scotties' but plenty of time for Poplar to catch up, however the Scotties' had other plans. Davis Tolzien hit the two-pointers scoring a total of eight points in the fourth quarter, followed by teammates Trey Graham, Sugg, and Cornwell all adding to the score. The Scotties kept to a total of six fouls to Poplar's five.

Glasgow enters the District 2B Tournament in Malta this weekend as the number four seed. They face the Harlem Wildcats at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in Malta in the opening round of play.
