Nashua Girls Drop Two To End Season

The Nashua girls basketball team hosted their last two games of the regular season this past weekend, going against the Scobey Spartans on Friday and Richey-Lambert on Saturday, Though the Porcupines dropped both games, they will be sitting at a record of 4-6 in conference play and 8-9 in their overall record leading up to the District 3C Basketball tournament in Glasgow this weekend.

Friday’s game saw a shut-out by the Spartans, after gaining an early led in the first half. Nashua’s Madison Harris scored two points in the first quarter, while Guinevere Abern and Gracyn Sibley each scored two points in the second quarter, ending the half at 6. However, Opheim’s Carrie Taylor, who is playing for the Spartans in a co-op agreement, helped the team gain the early lead by scoring five points in the first quarter and another five in the second quarter, adding onto the team’s 24 score. The second half showed continued Spartan domination, scoring another 23 points compared to the Porcupines 12 points.

Throughout the course of the game, Katey Dykstra and Abern had two fouls each, while Sibley fouled out. Madison Harris had one foul and Kaitlynn Miller had four fouls. Dystra was also three of five at free throw line in the fourth quarter, while Abern and Sibley both had two opportunities at the free throw line but could not connect to the net. Sibley was the leading scorer with six points, while Alexis Murdock helped by swishing four points.

The next evening’s game saw more of a closer spread though Richey-Lambert took home the win 44-33. The Porcupines kept it tied at the end of the first quarter 15-15, while Murdock and Abern each took a shot from the outside for three, Madison Harris scored four points and Miller scored two. The second quarter saw close scores with Harris hitting a two and a three-pointer, and Miller hitting another two. Sibley and Harris had two opportunities each at the free-throw line, with Harris only making one of her shots. The end of the first quarter saw Richey-Lambert up by two points. Richey-Lambert took that momentum and ran with it, scoring nine points in the third quarter, compared to Nashua’s three, courtesy of Murdock. The fourth quarter again saw Murdock hit two three pointers, however the free-throw attempts at the line by the team was one for two.

In the game, Murdock had two fouls, while Sibley and Harris had one each. Miller ended up with four fouls by the end of the game.

Though Tia Dees was out for both games, she will return to the court for the District 3C tournament this weekend. The Porcupines will start their tournament play against Dodson on Wednesday at 3 p.m., in the Glasgow gymnasium. The winner of that game will play against North Country on Thursday at 3 p.m.
