Frazer Girls Post 4-13 Overall Record

Frazer’s girls basketball team finished the regular season with a 1-9, 4-13 overall record after losing their last three conference match-ups this past week. The Bearcubs fell to the Spartans in Frazer Feb. 7 by a score of 63-41. Frazer lost 66-44 to the visiting Dodson Coyotes Friday night before dropping an 89-17 contest to North Country in Saco the following night.

Frazer trailed Dodson by 1 at the end of the first eight minutes, 16-15. The Bearcubs were outscored 15-4 in the second and trailed by 19 after three quarters, 49-30. Frazer put up 14 in the fourth but Dodson answered with 17 points.

Audrey Smoker led the Bearcubs with 9 points, including a three-pointer. Liana Jackson, Angel Nelligan and Bailey Beston all added 8 points, with Nelligan hitting two from beyond the arc. Leigha Smoker hit a trey on her way to 5 and Isabelle Even scored 4 points. Angeline White added a basket. The Bearcubs shot 25 percent from the free throw line.

Dodson held their fouls to 10, four in the second half, while Frazer drew 26 whistles. Jackson fouled out of the game while Nelligan, White and A. Smoker drew four whistles each. Even and Beston each had three fouls. L. Smoker had two infractions and Lola Romero one foul.

Frazer faced the top-ranked team in the state for Class C the following night. The Bearcubs trailed the undefeated Mavericks 35-3 after one and 61-14 at the half. They were shut out in the third and put up 3 in the fourth while the Mavericks scored 17 and 11 in the same frames.

Jackson scored 9 to lead Frazer with two treys and a 1-for-2 showing at the line in Frazer’s only free throw attempts. Nelligan scored 8 with two three-pointers.

North Country had four fouls, three in the second half, while Frazer drew nine calls, four after the break. A. Smoker drew four calls while Nellian had three fouls. Even and L. Smoker each had one foul.

Frazer enters the District 3-C Tournament in sixth place with a first-round game against third-place Lustre Christian. The Bearcubs face the Lions at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Scottie Gymnasium in Glasgow.
